Do you bluff a lot? I know its a big part of poker but I dont like bluffing or losing to a 'bluff' hand. I bluff on occasion but I mainly play what I have. If you are the type that bluffs, how often do you bluff and do you bluff for the big or smaller chips??

Bluffing and poker go hand in hand. If you can't pull off a good bluff, then your taking out much of the Skill of the game.

As for when and how to bluff... it's an Artfoum. As is simi bluffing and blind stealing are artforms.

I personaly like to bluff around 60% of every hand I miss on. But there are also some players I will never bluff... Becuase they are such poor players that they will call.

I know that doesn't make much sense, but it's just true. It's far easier to bluff a good player then it is to bluff a donk.

I would suggjest you try out a few bluffs now and then... Yes some times you will get called but you will also learn what it takes to make a good bluff...

Best way to learn is get out there and try it :)

I play tournaments with more than 5000 player and do not often bluff with less than 50,000 chips and play against with smaller stacks. It is to risk more than necessary in other situations.

Live 1/2 and the micros are very similar. (At least, where I live.)

I don't bluff in either.

That's not entirely true. I will bluff LIVE under specific circumstances. If I have HU against a thinking player, and if my bluff makes sense in combination with what I think they're holding, what I think they think I'm holding and the board texture. In other words: I only bluff HU, and when my bluff actually makes sense.

BUT, I mostly never bluff. Especially in the micros.

Just bet, bet, bet when you have it. You'll get paid off by calling stations.

Like I said, live 1/2 (at least what I am used to) is pretty soft and loose. You just gotta get lucky and bet, bet, bet.

I agree that bluffing is an art form and there should be some thought process into the bluff just as there is thought to every other part of the game. Start with your opponents image, what do you have him on, does he call a lot, is he a bluffer himself (people who bluff a lot also call a lot because they are convinced that everyone else is also always bluffing). Move on to your own table image, have you shown any bluffs, have you shown many hands, are you winning a lot at showdown. Next is the situation. Playing a hand is like telling a story, does your story make sense. Did you check call, check raise and lead out, this is a strong move that is successful with big winning hands, so when you use it as a bluff then it looks like you have something hard to beat. But if you went check, check on the flop and turn and then lead out with a big bet when a disconnected 3 hits the river, the other player is probably going to be suspicious.

You also have to account for position, stack sizes, how deep in a tournament you are, how long you have been sitting with the same players, how close a break or the money bubble is, ect.

Ring games are similar, you have to account for table images, your image, what you've been showing at showdown, what others have been showing at showdown, when you can move a guy off of top pair with a well placed value bluff and when your just pissing your money away.

There are players that I will never bluff, there are players that I bluff often, but this is only after having solid reads on them. There are also situations that it make sense to bluff and there are situations in which everyone knows that your just bluffing. So, you have to take into account a lot of factors before you decide to bluff a hand, but to be successful at poker you HAVE to be able to bluff and semi-bluff. You cannot only play made hands and be successful.

How often do you bluff

Recently I seem to find myself bluffing way too much, it's become a habit where if I miss on flop to try and bluff.
How often do you find your self bluffing and when is the best spots to do so?
(I haven't got any in particular hands in which I can show)

I play mostly in microstakes where bluffing is difficult. Occasionally there comes a spot where it's a good play but the unpredictable nature of some players makes it very risky and in most cases unprofitable <at least for me>

As stated earlier just bet hard when you have the cards unless you play higher stakes where players will be more likely to buy your bluff, especially if you have a table profile that shows you as tight... If you are loose then your bluffs are more likely to get called

You can't think of it as bluffing. You have to look at it as playing the cards you want your opponent to think you have. If you raise preflop and then the flop comes up with an ace, a C-bet is a great way to make your opponent think you have hit the ace even if you don't have one. He will be inclined to believe it because of your preflop raise. So if he called with a small pocket pair or something like a K-Q, a good bet there would likely get him out of the pot, assuming he hasn't hit a set or caught a pair.

Depending on the player I always bluff. Some others I never bluff. It really depends on the notes I have from him.

It´s not a matter of bluff or not, but against who.

I have to improve my game bluffing from the small blind. I think is the best spot or at least more reliable, especially in tournaments when the blinds are bigger enough

I also like what truecash said. There is no way to learn how and when to bluff without getting your feet wet. Just start slow and pick your spots. It hasn't been long since I started learning to bluff too. And of course I've been burned, but I'm way ahead. It's like truecash said. There are some you can bluff but some players will call you all the way to the river with 22. Anyway GL to you
