Right after a good amount of time reading on here! and thanks to the help from everyone on these forums, my game has improved drastically and im starting to feel confident and holding my own/profitting at 2nl where im at now! One thing i am unsure of though is all this talk of 3betting? i mean when should i be 3 betting, and in what position, against what opponents etc? just wondering how i can use 3betting to improve my game so if any of you could point me in the right direction id be very greatful.

p.s. i play full ring

- thanks a lot people!

At your stakes then playing TAG is probably the safest route to making money as I'd assume there are an enormous amount of fish. So at these stakes I would only be 3 betting for value, I don't think there's a lot of point 3bet bluffing at these stakes.

What type of hands you 3bet with will depend on a variety of factors, notably position, vilains tendancies, your reads etc etc. It's difficult to be specific so for hands your unsure of you may like to post some specific examples to discuss.

You want to avoid making this play against a very tight player who sticks to strong holdings only, because you expect them to play back at you too often . Try and make the play where your opponent will feel like they will be committing the rest of their stack to stay in the hand. You are hoping your opponent gives up pre-flop.
To even consider 3 betting you must have position on your opponent.

You don't need position to 3bet, but position is an important factor in whether to 3bet and what you're trying to accomplish w a 3bet.

I agree w Jagsti, stick to 3betting for value at 2nl.

You do not have to have position on your opponent to 3bet. Are you saying you're only going to flat a raise with JJ+ AK when you're oop?

SLy is right, you have to consider what you're trying to achieve when you 3b. Are you 3b'ing for value? What hands do you want to 3b for value, it doesnt have to be just KK+ AK, you can actually widen your 3b range depending on villains tendancies. There are so many considerations why you should/shouldn't 3b and with experience you can make thses type of decisions almost instantly. But I would say in general, at 2nl, you should limit 90% or more of your 3b's to value type hands, and very few bluffs. Yes you can try the occasional 3b bluff but there's probabaly no need to at this level.

Also when you're 3b'ing for value, you're not hoping for folds!
