My biggest leak (dry board): I can't get away from top-pair or overpair

Stupid question I know: does anyone have any kind of "mind trick" to help me with this?

Top-pair gives me the most trouble of any hand when facing big playback (I'm usually facing a bigger kicker, over-pair, or set).
But I'm careful with my kickers ..I don't play A7o-, K8o- Q8o-, for example.

On a wet board I can get away from TP or OP to obvious straights or flushes; and get away from a straight or low flush if the board has three of a suit (have you ever noticed that villain "always" has the flush?).

But on a dry board I just can't get away from a great one-pair. I think to myself: "wow, I have TP or OP ..it's so unlikely villain has a better kicker, OP, or set".

If only I could do a real-time combo analysis (#combos I win vs. #combos I lose, and compare those odds to my pot-odds).

TPTK or OP win SO frequently that they're difficult/impossible to give up even when facing big pressure:
1. Do I tighten-up when facing big pressure and continue only if both hole-cards are Broadways?

2. Do I just default-fold any pair to big pressure? (big bets or calls of 3/4 - 1 x pot almost always represent a set or OP or, less frequently, two-pair).

Thanks.

Consider who you are playing against and what their range might be.
Dry boards aggressive players that are loose, will bet to get you off the hand.
Very tight tight players will usually have the goods TPTK+
If a loose aggressive player checks, when you know on a dry board they normally bet, beware.

Good information okeedokalee.

I tend to be careless (lazy?) at categorizing playing styles: tight vs. loose & passive vs. aggressive.

Coincidently, I was just recently thinking of getting Ed Miller's book "Playing The Player: Moving Beyond ABC Poker To Dominate Your Opponents" to help myself identify & exploit these opponent playing-styles.

Well when categorizing people sometimes if you get an hud that can help or if you do not feel like downloading or dealing with it just take notes of whose playing a lot of hands and even what hands they are showing at showdown and think back to hand history. This was a proble for me too as I often lost focus.

I believe this is my biggest leak too currently. I can be profitable for hours and days, then donate it all away in minutes. To make it even worse it's the big fish who usually gets my money, making me even bigger fish.

Well I realized the program I use has action time randomizer. I have set the timer to 15 seconds, so whenever I make a decision I have 15 seconds time to revert it. I hope this extra time makes me able to revert the instant money donations. It’s free up to 10NL and called tabletamer. Later I hope 5 sec is enough.

I think Okeedokalee hit it. I find that this is a leak for me as well and its it usually because I am not putting the proper thought into what I am doing.
