I almost always check preflop when I am on BB. I only raise big hands. Is this bad? (Sorry if its a stupid question :p)

No way, you need to try to defend your blinds and play according to the cards you get. If all limp you should at least bet 2BB, depending on who is in the SB.

if it is just you and the SB in the hand you should at least min raise 70%, he has only limped and you have position, great spot to be in!!! how often will he have a hand strong enough to trap you. I would just apply steady pressure on flop/turn. punish him for playing out of position.

This is a great spot to attempt a steal by raising at least 4-5 bb if you have a tight image, can also be done in late phase mtt.

Me to protect my big blind. I have read some where that you should bet 4X the big blind if it's you and one other person then you have to go up one number if there is 3 off you and so on.

So! This is where the game of poker gets you thinking. Firstly, its more than just the hole cards that you have. You need to consider what you know about the player(s) before you, and what they have been doing, and also what you have been doing; so table image is one consideration. Do you really want to be playing the same way throughout? You will need to consider relative stack sizes. Also, what will you do if you do raise, and are re-raised? If you will fold, then maybe you should reconsider what you do. Or will you be prepared to go all in? Don't forget, if its just you and the SB, then you have position after the flop. If there are others, then you may not and you may be out of position, so this impacts as well.

All this makes checking a really easy decision, and simply raising x4 also easy, but potentially wasteful in the long run. You need to give though to what you do and why and what you will do in response to further action, then and only then can you make your play.

no that's fine, although against some weak limps especially if they are too passive you should value raise good but non premium holdings.

No it's not bad. Often times, I'm the BB and the action has been passed to the SB; and he min raises me with AA!!!! I have AK or A rag and I have a bad habit of shoving allin. I learned my lesson. Don't defend the BB that often, it's not worth it IMO.

Live, some of my biggest pots I've won and have seen others win have been by checking in the BB special. 26os or some other garbage hand flopping huge, and somehow a newish player forgets/or just doesn't realize that the BB can have anything.

Again, as always in poker, very situational. An example of when you have a weak hand and defend is when you have an aggro dealer or SB, try 3-betting them with 3X raise or something. If you win your blind will be much less contested in the future.

always best to know your SB here...what hands are limping in with in the blinds...how often is the button raising? always study the action intensly during your blinds. the best situation to be in is having the button and SB be nits...sucks when they are super agro...it kind of forces your hands as the blinds go up...thats why its super immportant to pay attn to what they raise with and limp with during your blinds.

In these positions there is no need to play hands than AK or TT + because if you receive a call you will play out of position ( which means it will be the first to speak ) and that means it can be difficult to play post flop except with premium hands . Similarly you should avoid getting giving call from the small blind and the big blind only to see the flop , because again you will be the first to speak , will be out of position and the blinds are too low to want to risk to get complicated .

I also often go all-in, I do not know how this habit in itself to overcome

I think it's fine. You'll be in bad position for the rest of the hand, which can make playing a larger pot much more difficult.
