I've been wondering lately when I play, I'll have a villain who might raise preflop, check the flop, doesn't get bet into, and then checks the turn, where I will then bet on the turn and he still calls, and then checks the river and still calls.
Now, I know this question isn't exactly black and white, but I'm gonna try my best here.
If the villain raises preflop out of position then checks the flop, you might sometimes think he is employing the "check-call" strategy, however if he doesn't get bet into, and checks the turn, would this be an optimal time to bet big and just take the pot down now? say bet maybe a little over 3/4 of the pot?
Or would you bet small here, hope for a call and then bet big on the river?
Obviously this depends on your hole cards and the board, but as a general rule of thumb, what would be your best advice?
I also feel if there's a flush and straight draw, you should bet big on the turn to avoid them getting a good price to call for a river card, is this correct?
I feel like my bets have been too small previously in comparison to the pot and thats why I get people calling when they show weakness.
sorry if this isn't easy to understand!
