Situation from live tournament (somewhere in the middle, blinds 100/200, avg stack ~7000).
In the late position I get A10s. Someone raises to 500, someone calls, I call (being the last to act), everyone folds. Pot is 1800. Flop comes 5 7 10 rainbow. Both of them check. How much I should raise?

1100. Enough to win you the pot right there with them showing weakness and enough to make AK,AQ AJ, pay to see another card if the want to try draw out on you.

2/3 pot is a good amount which prevents correct drawing odds.. which is 1200. 1100 is around that figure so thats fine.

2/3 the pot, which is 1200 to make them fold. You don't want to see any more cards on the board because you would be in a very difficult position when a face card hits.

You should bet enough to get a good read and hopefully a call. But don't bet too low that they call on nothing and suck out on you. Around 1200 seems just fine.

Thanks for your answers. Now I see I have a problem - I overbet. In situations like this I tend to bet somewhere around pot size, and I move everyone out (except some freaky set holders, if there are any). In described situation I bet 1700 and they both folded. I didn't want to take the risk of face card coming (remember one of them raised 2,5BB, so it would probably hit him), but then I feel I'm not taking as much as I could overbetting. Thanks again.

Good post Marv, I feel like i also over bet in similar situations. I know that the raiser is probably holding Broadways and am just not sure what to do. I'll have to remember this nice 2/3 pot bet next time I have big pair on a relatively small board...

Personally in that situation I would go allin. I guess it depends on the read you have on that player. Top pair with A kicker sounds good to me.

If you are playing against Goofy and Homero Simpson maybe the right move...
Playing against an average player is the worst move in that spot because your bet only be called by a set, two pairs or maybe an overpair.

Typical online MTT freeroll move, you will be called and sucked out on, or everyone will fold and you will make 0 profit. It's poker you need to bet and understand when your behind and ahead. You want enough money in there to keep a call while being ahead % wise, and with money. If your %65? and there calling 2/3 pot size, your getting good value for them to beat you. Just knowing when your beat is the hard part.

For beginners, start with a 3/4 pot-sized bet. That should be your standard bet. If the board is scary (straight or flush draws likely), bet more. If the board is ragged (no obvious draws), bet less.

As you get more experience, you'll be able to vary your bet-sizes even more, but a 3/4 pot-sized bet often ensures your opponent, if behind, will either fold or make a bad call because he/she won't be getting the right odds to call. Still, it isn't such a significant amount that your opponents won't make mistakes and it doesn't turn your good hand into rags because only a monster hand would call you.

Unfortunately a 2/3 pot size bet gets called in 2 spots there, at least in my home game, loose maniacs I tell you. How do you overcome? Is it appropriate to shove in that situation?

I don't consider that an overbet...what "whoever" said earlier about all in...thats an overbet. Pot sized bet aint that bad. Plus w/ tptk you dont want to give someone a chance to catch, so them folding was pretty good, wasnt really a board where there was alot to look out for, so just taking down what was there was good. the main thing about 1/2 to 2/3 pot bet is you're just risking less to accomplish the same thing.
