Unless you have set up a bluff from the beginning of the hand, don’t let yourself get caught betting or calling based solely on what you could win. In other words, don’t get greedy. Now, the size of the pot in relation to both the size of the bet and the quality of your hand should dictate how you react, but if you’re simply looking at the size of the pot and thinking, “if I get lucky I could win all those chips and be set for the tourny” then you’re setting yourself up for failure. Poker is a paradox where the core tenant of the game is to be as greedy as possible with the chips, and yet if you base your decision on greed instead of quality decision making you’ll lose every time.
