Hey new poster here hoping you guys can help.

What would you recommend as the best place to start for a beginner?

Would learning via the cash games be best or by playing the micro stakes tournaments?

I prefer to play tournaments but ive noticed that no matter how properly you try to play, that most people will call you down no matter how much you raise or what you have.

Is it the same at the micro limit ring games?

Think ive had enough of the tournament's for now after getting My all in pre flop raise with AA called and beat by 10 7 off suit.

Well I recommend 2NL to get started... And having your money in preflop is what causes a lot of varience. Get your money in on the river and your varience will go down and you'll start winning more money.

Cheers.

So i shouldnt of lumped all my cash in pre flop with the AA?
Always thought pre flop was best so anyone wanting to play had to seriously think about there hand

There's nothing wrong with being able to get all of your money in preflop with AA. Keep in mind, though, that just because you lost, that doesn't mean you made a wrong play, and just because you won, that doesn't mean you made a right play.

I would start at the Limit tables fiinding and working on the fundamental buildiing blocks of the game. Limit Hold Em is a great place to start. There you will find the cash ring games or tournaments of your liking. Good luck in whatever your poker endevors are.

Thanks for the advice.
When i played a few years ago after reading super system, the limit tables is where i tried out the advice from the book.

Im going to get the Harrington books and give them a read as well.

Must be 5 years since i last played online and ive noticed that alot of players now try to play like Gus Hansen.

From what ive seen it seems more straight forward to play against the better players than the newer ones that play any hand they get.
How do you read players that will play anything, from any position, and bet anything at anytime?

Anyway ive had one success so far by winning a SnG for the little big tournament on FT

The best way to play against someone who is ridiculously loose and just will not fold is to wait until you have a hand that you know will destroy them, and then beat them over the head with it.

I've heard from several people that you don't want Harrington or Super System to be your first books. If you do some quick searching of these forums you can find some very good recommendations.

you can start with play chips to get a feel for the game. but once you go into cash game you see that everyone become more tighter then normal when you play for real money

play really smal buyin tourneys or just play with play chips for atleast a few months you'll pick up many plays that you can incorporate in your own game and new strategies along the way. Playing the micro stakes isnt a good idea for a beginne rbecause they are almost deemed to loose all of their money due to being unable to handle the swings that a cash game has, so eithe rstick with play chips and make alot or play small buying real money tourneys.
