Look for sites with solid amounts of relatively recent material that applies to the game(s) and level(s) you currently play plus the next couple of higher ones.

I found Poker Zion when I purchased Leakbuster. They have some training courses that are really good. I've done the Roots course, and have started the Iron Lion course. i really like their approach. Every week you get presented with a new concept.

I have to pimp DragTheBar. Super friendly forums, great customer service, very patient and knowledgeable coaches. Videos are excellent!

With all the books, online articles and forums available what does training sites have to offer that's different?

never been on drag the bar? is it cash only or what?

Cash, MTT, SnG, mostly NLHE, with some FL, Omaha, and maybe a little mixed games here and there. Plus backgammon (by Bill Robertie, who you may remember as Dan Harrington's co-author).

Leatherass was one of the founding coaches, but left awhile back to go to BlueFire. Katy Dozier, Colin Moshman's wife, is one of the MTT coaches. Blackrain is an active micro-cash coach. Some other pretty well-known coaches are Greg "zerosum79" Jones (SnG specialist), Paul "Giant Buddha" Hoppe, and Owen "QTip" Gaines. Up until recently Jared Tendler was also our resident "mindset" coach, although he just left to take on a new venture. Hunter Bick is the CEO and HU NLHE coach.

One thing I like about DTB is that it's a smaller, more closely knit community than the other big-name training sites. It's not a bunch of faceless or pious coaches that rarely talk to players unless you pay their personal coaching fees. They'll answer your questions for free in the forum. Hunter Bick, the CEO, is active in the forums and is a very nice guy who handles a lot of customer service issues personally. The atmosphere is also very friendly compared to most. It's a lot like comparing CC with 2+2. ;)

Come over for a free trial!

With all the books, online articles and forums available what does training sites have to offer that's different?
Forums, articles, and books are great as general resources. But as was said, training sites offer more intense, targeted, and concentrated training materials and opportunities. Much like with a tracker/HUD, you can become a fine player without any of it, but you'll become a better player quicker by making the investment and putting forth some effort to take advantage of it.

Virtually all of them offer a limited free trial, so try out a few and see what you like.

Note that some of them, like CardRunners (unless they've changed since I was a member there pre-BF), have DRM'ed videos that won't work after your trial expires or after you quit paying. Most of the others (I know DTB and DeucesCracked at least) offer DRM-free videos, so those you download during your trial you can keep and replay.

im signed on bluefire to. they got quite much cash game content but also covering mtts and others. if you are micro stakes player i wouldnt go for bluefire i think. there isent alot of that there, other may be better. the forums are active to and what comes with it.

but as said already most of them got free trial, try them out and pick what you find best only you can judge what is best :)

I'm interested, please tell me:

How long in reality will it take to improve my game?

How long do you think it will take to earn back the cost of joining?

I'm a micro sng HNL and PLO cash player.

I've read a few books but have trouble using the info at the tables

Thanks.

How long in reality will it take to improve my game?
Well that depends on you -- your aptitude for learning and where your game is right now -- so hard for anyone to say.

How long do you think it will take to earn back the cost of joining?
Again, see above. If you have the aptitude to learn and discipline to study and apply what you learn, then it will more than pay for itself. Month to month fees are typically $30/mo for most sites, but many will discount that a bit if you buy in 3/6/12 month blocks. It's not hard at all to plug only a single leak and recoup that much. But again, take advantage of the free trials they all offer, then you can get a taste and judge for yourself before making any investment.

I'm a micro sng HNL and PLO cash player.
I can't speak to PLO as I don't touch it. Review the coaches bio pages or the forums at DTB to see what they have to offer.

For a SnG player, I very highly recommend Greg "zerosum79" Jones' ABC SNG series. I believe Greg posted some of the early lessons here on CC and maybe YouTube. There's also Al "md261" McClenahan - from his coach bio: "Al has one of the highest SNG ROI's on pokerstars and has thousands of hours of poker coaching under his belt. In 2011, he was in the top 15 on six different PokerStars SNG leaderboards. His specialties are 6-max turbos and HU SNGs"

Speaking of micros, I think that's something DTB offers over most other training sites that tend to give short shrift to the micro grinders, especially cash players. For you micro cash players, DTB coach Nathan "Blackrain79" Williams (who also posts here at CC) is a micro cash specialist and turns out a lot of micro stakes videos. Here's a listing from his coaching bio at DTB:

Deep stacks University is not bad, especially if you are a Hold em player! $30/ Month. Good Luck!

I also agree. I got one month free from a poker site promotion. Regrettably I hardly used the opportunity due to laziness. I liked black rains micro stakes videos.
