I found myself in a passive play rut recently, but that all changed staring at the kitchen sink when I woke up.

My spouse puts our mixing bowls in the sink to let things 'soak' in- but she never makes that continuation bet post flop and the bowl sits there for 2 weeks so coated in grime, you never want to make fresh dough in it again.

So, taking that hard earned anger you can inherit after 15 years of marriage - I took it to the tables and found my passive streak was over.

I have A10 suited ? MOVE OUT OF THE WAY - heh - and people ran, problem solved.

That 77 I may have limped on pre flop? Oh no, not anymore - I'm going 10% of my bank roll.

Just some humor but I did JUST discover what to do with anger in life - IF you have been in a passive play rut... It all balances out I think.

My - am I onto writing a book? 'How Poker saved my marriage' ? heh

While the intent here was to render a smile, I do think there might be something of merit here as to strategy in taking life conflicts - and using the game to vent those conflicts on the felt- digital or not.

Now - this doesn't imply angry people are better poker players but when I started I once read a quote by Doyle Brunson 'Sure I play with friends, but once the game starts I have one goal and that is to destroy every one of them'.

I'm TEMPTED to say 'nice' doesn't win you poker hands.

thoughts? on anger? nice? poker?

The best time to play is when you can show your best game. When nothing distracts you and you feel good.

When you feel good and alert. Doesnt matter the time of day. When you are distracted or in a bad frame of mind, dont play.

Unfortunately for me I am a morning person so I play the best early. OK for online play but terrible for live tournaments - I always get tired early.

I usually play poker in the evenings after work. It is mostly 3-4 hours a day. But the most time I manage to play on the weekend. On such days I can actually play poker for 8-12 hours.

Any times a good time if you can commit to the game without distraction. Turn off your phone, turn off the TV, put on your favorites tunes, relax and enjoy a winning game of poker.

Loving Doyle's quote there. My favourite one is from Sklansky's book

"Jack Straus, 1982 poker champion, has said he'd bust his own grandmother if she was in a pot with him, which is pretty much the only attitude a serious poker player can have when he or she sits down behind a stack of chips"

Nice quotes from Brunson & Slansky, but 1 thing missing:
It's just a game!: enjoy it and learn from it.

I think you should find a state of mind to take the best decisions in life and poker. This can be achieved through meditation and organization of your life around poker, always optimizing every detail to achieve high performance. Read good articles, watch good movies, watch final tables and football games and your quality of life will improve a lot. Always be careful with your food and physical exercises will help a lot

For me, early morning is the best, Wake up at 6:00 take a cold shower until, by 6:45 you have finished your 15 minutes meditation session and you can start playing.Mind is never clearer.I like your story but you should note that carrying emotions into the game is prolly a mental leak and you should look to fix that if you aim to become a professional. Its so horribly hard to do that, where i am at now i have to grind even when i am in depressed state, and playing good and aggresive while in that state is extremely hard but if you detach you decision making from your emotional state it becomes possible

I find having ADHD helps me leave my problems off the table, and forget my last hand pretty easily and ... oh look a butterfly!

They say playing during the nightime is valuable edge because thats when other players are either drunk, tired or even both. If you are well rested, mentally sharp, and well prepared you definitely have an edge..

you will play your best when you are well rested, feel confident in your game, and have no stress or distractions. It is a mentally taxing game and you must stay sharp when playing. With that said I like to play at night, when people are drinking and partying while i sip on a coffee or tea just waiting to strike when they get out of line.

I always find this to be a difficult question. Some people's morning is another persons night etc. Poker players all over the world say we should play at evenings and weekends which makes sense. But isn't it always SOMEONES evening time? When it's 2am in UK it's 9pm in brazil and 6am in Russia. So the Brazilians are getting started, UK is half way through their session and Russia is going to bed. So it's difficult to say for sure what the "Best" time to play is.

We first need a list of countries which have the MOST online poker players in the world. Then we make the top country on that list our time reference point. Then we should play during THEIR Evening times. I mostly play during times when large population countries are in the middle of their late evening. That way I can sit with as many recreational players as possible.

Everyone has their own personal differences that may make certain times of day better than others.

I recommend playing at the later portion of when the most players are available. So if you find that most players are playing between 8pm and 11pm. 9pm may be the best time to start. At that point you still get the most recreational players and they should be done trying to stick to their A game.

First of all, in order to determine the best clock for the game, you need to look at what time most people play, that is, determine the peak traffic.

Here everything is simple, the more players online, the higher your chances of finding recreational players.

These are people who play poker for fun.

Again this is good advice about playing evenings etc but we are not all in the same timezones. I still really want to know what times the MOST poker players are online. The world average! That would be useful.

I don't know, but we should get that info up on this thread. If we can figure this out then we would all know the best times to be online. Link anyone?
