I understand how important rakeback is for the ring game player, but for someone interested in playing only sit-and-gos and MTTs, how important is a rakeback deal? And is there some other kind of affiliate incentive better for tourney players?

Since on most sites, you'll get part of your entry fee back with a rakeback deal, yeah I'd say its pretty important.

If you put in any considerable amount of volume. Definitely important.

Getting about 30 cents back for every dollar in fees you pay is pretty big.

Because most of the time you already have an affiliate. Your affiliate will receive kickbacks on the rake you pay, that's their incentive for signing you guys up.

So if you already have an affiliate that's receiving money from the rake you pay, they can't just stop paying that affiliate and pay you rakeback instead.

I signed up at both stars and FT so long ago I can't remember where I even got the links, possibly google, or whatever was around before google. Its been a long long time. Long before I ever even knew I needed a forum to help my game.

So, will either of those sites tell me who/how/what/when I signed up, and if an affiliate was involved?

There is no rakeback on stars. If you email FTP and you are linked to an affiliate they won't reveal who it is. However, if you aren't linked to an affiliate they will send your details to rakebackpros and you'll be on a waiting list to receive rakeback. They also seem to be in the beginning stages of rolling out a system for offering players with affiliates the equivalent of "rakeback" thru a bonus: https://www.cardschat.com/forum/poker-rooms-10/full-tilt-starting-offer-rakeback-players-166759/
