Hello. I am new to the poker world, but I am in love with the game and especially with Texes Hold'em. Can you recommend me some good books, videos, etc. for beginners. I am currently reading Texas Hold’em For Dummies by Mark Harlan.

There are few books I have read online that could help you.

I find that if google roy rounder no limit hold'em secrets pdf, its worth a good read.

Phil Gordon's little green book,

That's just name some, you can find more by searchin for poker ebooks.

I suggest you to skill in freerolls like pokerstars league.
If you want to deposit, play on the lowest possible stakes and avoid MTTs, SNGs are safer.
Learn on the pokerstrategy.com for example and find starting hands and open push charts on the internet (they are also on the pokerstrategy site).
Good luck! ;)

do you realy think a poker book can improve your poker? I think that a specific poker forum like cardschat offer more useful information If you're able to sort information. If you're a beginner you're not gonna understand all the poker terms used in a book. It is just a point of view.

good luck at tables!!!

From what I'm reading, it sounds like I just need to start playing so I can understand the questions I should have. I'm going to start early tomorrow morning with a freeroll. Thank you!

Thanks for the recommendations. I can tell you that I have made my first win (a small one only $0.30).

Good luck, but also be prepared to bust quickly ;) I started playing poker on some home games in which the host knew a lot more about poker and he was willing to share advice. Freerolls are fine, but with large number of players it is extremely hard for beginner to run deep or even play for more then 25-20 minutes if this is turbo.

The best you can do in the beginning is to start from solid fundamentals on preflop game. I remember that most of my mistakes when I was beginning came from very bad preflop game. In wikipedia article about starting hands there are at least few hands classifications. If you at least know with what hands to open raise and with what hands to 3bet in different spots, it will be a lot as starting point :).

Also, there are many youtube and twitch channels when you can watch poker strategy, hand reviews, how pros play etc. My favourites are:

As for books, I don't really remember what are the books for total beginners, but when you are better try:
Strategies for Beating Small Stakes Poker Cash Games by Jonathan Little
Easy Game by Andrew Seidman

3 book thati though where helpful earlyer on is
1.Secrets of Sit'n'gos by Phil Shaw
2.Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em by Collin Moshman
3.The Psychology of Poker

3 I would read first it has some tests to help to understand the game, then move over to 1 and after your understand that move over to 2.

Harrington is the best. Always go back to vol 1 and 2, especially 2. Also just started reading Gus Hansen "every hand revealed" he goes hand by hand through the Aussie millions he won. Fascinating stuff.

Hansen's book is great, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to the beginner for couple of reasons (apart from that it is about high stakes poker):
1. He is well known and other players and especially not well known players could often give him more credit for his moves.
2. He plays really wide range. While on tournaments you can sometimes play that wide, it has to be done based on understanding table dynamics, position, pressure and ability to read other opponents. This is way beyond beginners level ABC poker.
3. While often softer, tournaments are hard to understand at first because of ICM and stacks changing so quickly. I think it is too much at the beginning.

Other than that I loved it too :)

Hi Sarniak, You're probably right, about it not being for beginners. I agree, I wouldn't recommend it for the first book but once you've read some basic tourney books it is a great insight into how a high level poker player does it, and I guess that what a lot of us aspire to. It's inspirational :) I've only ever played tournaments, never cash, so I don't really have a good understanding of the difference.

Hello Sarniak and welcome.

For a beginner I would start with Phil Gordon's Little Green Book. Its an easy read, easy to apply and understand concepts and gives you a good basis for how to look at and think about the game. Next I would move to the Harrington on Hold-em series. Great concepts and gets you to look at how a hand is played from multiple angles. Sure Dan is a bit tight, but all beginners should learn to play tight first an branch out to a style that fits them. Get through those first and then come ask us for more.
