Hey guys I'm fairly new to playing online poker pretty seriously. I started playing years ago but recently starting understanding how not to play like a fish. So I recently won a tourney online 450 bucks and got my bankroll up to 650 with that and some cash games. Like a total asshole I was drunk the other night paying 1/2 and busted out my entire bank. I learned my lesson not to play drunk. Since then I've dropped another 150 in my accounts and lost it between tourneys and cash 25/50cent games. I feel, I'm a decent player and getting better but I keep busting out and want to rebuild my bank roll. At advice for a beginner?

I consider myself to be a beginner as well but the best advice I've gotten is that if you don't have the best hand, someone else does. It's obviously not always true, but it will save you from going all in and losing all your chips in one hand. Tournaments are about going the distance...it doesn't matter who has the most chips half way through. Poker is 90% folding....just make the winning hands count.

First of all read the poker mindset, then read about BRM, with it and if you are right that your game is good you should start winning again...

If think that you have holes in your game, go back to the lowest limits and work your way up, try to figure out what you do wrong pre flop, post flop, make sure that you are using position while playing etc, also read books, articles and treads here, that is about it for the start

Love the gogoplata nickname btw :D

Bankroll management. Don't play drunk. Problem solved

Funny, but thats actually one of the ground rules.
First, respect your BR. When you play tournaments or cash games try to bring about 1 to 3 % of your whole bankroll at a table. You can play at higher stakes if you feel confident.
Now about not having the best hand - trust me, you dont have the time to play only when you got the nuts. Poker is a mixed game, even though luck takes a decent place in the game, you cant rely just on that. Or to have the nuts. You need to learn to bluff and stuff, in the right moments, against the right players. Try to play lower SnG's, for example when you lost those 150$, you could have played 1.50 SnG's and not only you wouldnt have lost it that fast, but you would have won a few aswell. But your bankroll was too big for these tournaments to matter. So, if you think you are a decent player, dont play under the influence or something ( alcohol, weed, bad mood ) and read some BRM articles. That usually does the job for you.

Well we have already established don't play drunk but I'm not sure I know what limits you are playing. If that 25/50 cent is NL then you are going to go broke with only $150 a lot. Set some better bankroll management limits and grind the micro stakes. If it's it too boring for you to grind $5NL with your $150 roll then I'd say poker is more about gambling for you. There is nothing wrong with that just realize it's entertainment for you and your deposits are just an expense for that entertainment.

Consider yourself a near-beginner. Start at the lowest stakes and work your way up by proving you're a winning player at one level, then the next and so on.

And get it out of your mind that you're a decent player. If you are, your winnings will show it tangibly, which is far more meaningful than telling yourself so. If you're not, you're setting yourself up for either disappointment or for fooling yourself.

Many cases online. Some wins then they lose next. Some lost then they will win next.
