Im a new player and beyond the hold em for dummies books have read nothing. There have probably been a few threads similar to this but any advice on beginner books would be good, I looked online and found many recommendations, ideally solid beginner books would be appreciated. I have knowledge of basic things like position and layer types but not much else. I currently only play micro stakes and free roll tournaments, when I improve though I woul like to go to higher stakes real tables so any book which gives a general overview would be good.

Phil Gordon's 'Little Green Book' is a decent first read. Well-written, easy read.

What I did is went on ebay and bid on lots of poker books. Not lots as in may but auctions that had like 5 or 6 different books. I now have a huge collection of print books and about 70 on my computer I need to read.
Super System, and Super System 2
Ace on the River
Mike Caro's Most Profitable Hold'em Advice, or anything by him.

As I'm sure you've already been made aware Super System is a wonderful guide to all poker games. It's more designed for cash games but the principals remain the same for the most part when applying them online. I myself want to look into books more designed to compliment online play so if you hear of any good ones please let me know.

This is the first poker book I read because he suggested it to me. Okay maybe it wasnn't quite like that but anywho that is the first one I read. I liked it.

I am starting out playing tournaments online and mostly very cheap ones except for bigger ones that I won tickets to play in them. The books I was told (suggested) to read next were some books by the author Dan Harrington. He has written books on tournament play and on cash games. I am just reading the tournament play ones and am now on the 2nd one which is Vol.2 end game play.

These have been very helpful to me too. I find that I can keep on going back and reading parts of them over again and each time I seem to keep learning more. Then when I am playing even though it feels like I am not going to remember most of the stuff I read about, it seems like stuff keeps on popping up for me. Then I get interested in going back and reading some more.

It really works. I think I have mostly just gotten lucky so far but I started out with only a $75 deposit split between two sites and today I have close to $200. Beginner's luck hee hee hee.

I sure didn't want to read the books before I started out but it was said to me that it would be like trying to take an exam at school without taking the course before it. I think it is also making my poker playing more fun because I am feeling like I know what I am doing more often now.

I started with the Dan Harrington on Hold 'Em books, I'm about 3/4 of the way through The Work Book, also I got Harrington on Online Cash Games, but it's aimed at players with Hold 'Em Manager or Pokertacker software, I'm not at that stage yet, so it's not much use to me right now. And as someone else said Phil Gordon's Little Green Book should have its place in your collection, I've not had time to read it myself but I've got the the audio book and it's good too listen to when driving etc. I also got The Mental Game of Poker by Jared Tendler on audio, it's a good book but I felt a lot of the advice is aimed at players on the upper rungs of the poker ladder. I've just started reading The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky & am liking what I see.
