Beating a Stake Level

People talk about beating a stake level before moving up. How do you know when you've beaten a level? Is it based on how much you've won at that level? How often you win?

I consider that I beat a stake level when I built my bankroll high enough to play the next level and stay with in my BRM .

We should change levels when our skills improve and we increase our bankroll.
