I started with super system and it helped me understand how to play skillful poker, rather than just lucky poker. I read the Full Tilt tournament strategy guide and learned a lot about making it deeper into tourneys from Chris Ferguson's entries. I also read a book by Daniel Negreanu about small ball poker which helped me reduce variance in tourneys by controlling the pot size. So yes, I'd say I use what I've learned from poker books every time I play.
most books are outdated and imo no longer applicable to todays poker. There are a few that teach fundamentals that still apply, but for the most part I think online courses or coaching is money better spent.
I have never used a poker book. I think that poker is all on how you play. Yeah there is luck involved with it, but that is like any other game or sport you play. They may help give you some ideas on what to do with a hand but I have always played going with my gut and hoping for the best.
I read some books that brought me a lot of benefits.
Jared Tendler "The Mental Game of Poker"
Ed Miller "Texas Holdem for beginners"
Andrew Seidman "The Easy Game"
I also have not read any poker books . I would like to but im just being lazy and not doing the work to research a good book or even go online and read one . Im sure it would help me with my game but why mess with such greatness lol not
To begin playing poker, its good to have a friend to teach the basics of the game. Or to get a What is so basis is also so important to begin to play the game of poker.
One of my go to books is Harrington on Holdem Volume 3. When I find that I am struggling, I use this book to go through some example hands and reset my brain to a tighter game and also to how I should be evaluating hands.
To be honest it depends on where you are at as a player. I have read way to many poker books but would highly recremend any of Jonathan Littles tournament books and beating small stakes poker. Ed miller books are very valuable as well.
Small Stakes Hold Em by Miller, Sklansky, Malmuth is very good. Harrington on Cash Games also. Theory of Poker by Sklansky. They have all helped me to understand the game from a beginner's viewpoint. Much info in all 3 on what, when, and how to play.
