Thought this might help totally new players.
The first math one must learn is to count the number of outs you have and your chances of getting one of them on the turn and the river.
To determine outs after the flop look at the number of cards you think will put your hand in top position.
For example if you need a spade for a flush there are 9 cards that will give it to you (13 spades-4 accounted for).
Multiply by 2. ( 9*2=18)
For the turn multiply by another 2. (18*2=36) So you have just over a 1 in 3 chance of getting a flush.
For the river you multiply by 1 for the one remaining card to be shown. (1*18)=18. So you have a 1 in a little less then 5 chances to win.
If you have an ace you might have 3 more outs so 12 outs or a 48% chance of hitting.
Hope this helps someone that is new to the game.

?? Confusing explanation you got there, why are you saying multiply by 2, then multiply by 2 for the turn then multiply by 1 for the river?

Your 9 outs for a flush would have the flop already out there so yes 18% chance to hit your flush on the turn, 18% chance to hit the flush on the river if it doesn't hit the turn, so about a 35-36% chance that if you flop a flush draw you should hit it by the river.

Outs to make a hand is so situational to know if its actually clean outs or not, you mention the A but it wouldn't be a clean out if your facing two pair or a set on the flop that you need to hit your flush or backdoor trips or two pair to overtake the villian.

Was recently another thread created with some info comments regarding outs and a great resource from acepokersolutions to help with working on determining the outs you have in a hand.

I did not see the other thread so I apologize for the duplication.
I agree that everything in poker is situational and based on where you think you are in the hand.
I only posted it as a general piece of info for people that are just starting out and may not even know about outs.
When I started playing holdem in 2003 I was one of those players and this info would have helped me play better.
I am still a total amateur and I am sure most of the long term members have advanced their game more and have much more knowledge than I do.

No problem, just thought I would point you to the other thread for additional info and the link to the acepokersolution site that has a great App with lots of exercises for calcing outs.

Thanks for the link bluff. This is the first that I have seen this more advanced calculation of odds. I will have to study this a little and see if it can help me improve my game.
It is only this year that I am actually trying to learn to play better so this is much appreciated.

Going on the turn, you have 18% of hitting it. No hit, going on the river, another 18% chance of hitting.
