Thought this might help totally new players.
The first math one must learn is to count the number of outs you have and your chances of getting one of them on the turn and the river.
To determine outs after the flop look at the number of cards you think will put your hand in top position.
For example if you need a spade for a flush there are 9 cards that will give it to you (13 spades-4 accounted for).
Multiply by 2. ( 9*2=18)
For the turn multiply by another 2. (18*2=36) So you have just over a 1 in 3 chance of getting a flush.
For the river you multiply by 1 for the one remaining card to be shown. (1*18)=18. So you have a 1 in a little less then 5 chances to win.
If you have an ace you might have 3 more outs so 12 outs or a 48% chance of hitting.
