How many buyins do you guys use for a bankroll when playing cash games.

I play 6max cash games and am a 2pt winner at nl100 over 50k hands. I cashed out some money and am left with 40 buyins. Do you guys think this is enough to stop me from going broke? :D

thx

Just remember that your Bankroll is not the amount of money in your poker account. It is the amount of money you are prepared to "lose" at poker.

IMO 40+ would be needed. but right at 40 you have to be very careful. and be ready to drop down if you get to 30 say. if you had a higher BB/100 then 40 would be OK. the less your ROI% the more likely you could have a big swing. i suppose the standard deviation could be accounted for but over all just keep a close eye on it and be ready to drop if need be. you might even try i split have a few lesser stake going to build the BR up a bit while still at these stakes.

40BI's is fine, as long as your disciplined and move down when you need to of course.

I'm still at the micros but i've decided to use quite an aggressive BR strategy, in that i take shots at the next level at around 20BI's, i give myself a 3BI buffer zone and if i lose that i move back down to my old level. I think i'm going to keep doing this until i get to 25nl and then change to 25BI shots when i'm going for 50nl.

I think as long as you can move back down this is a good strategy to use as it moves you up the limits quicker.

this is what i've been using. only i'm still stuck at the lowest levels.

1st shot 20 buyins drop at 19 buyins
2nd shot 22 buyins drop at 20 buyins
3rd shot 25 buyins drop at 21 buyins
>3rd shot 30 buyins drop at 22 buyins

It's not the same for everyone. Those who play a higher variance style will experience more and larger ups and downs in their bankrolls, and should thus have more buyins.
