Greetings all,

Long time player, first time forum poster...

My question is: What bankroll should I start with?

My target is to make £75 a day from poker, part time due to work, and I plan to play 6 players sit n go's. What will be an ideal bankroll to begin with? Also what stake games do you suggest?
Is my £75 a day target realistic?

Many thanks

First off, forget about having a daily target that is measured by money earned. Look to play a certain amount of games/tournaments per day and work from there. I'm a cash guy so I can't say much more as you are a tournament oriented player.

The best bit of advice is just to forget about winning a certain amount of £'s per day as you might win £150 one day and lose £100 the next five days. Just focus on learning more and reaching your goal of x games played per day.

As I said I dunno about tournament bankroll management but I would say upwards of 50 BI's is considered acceptable (I think, no doubt I'll be corrected if I'm wrong). You shouldn't jump into a stake in order to reach daily goals as there is a good chance the stakes are too difficult for you. Start off lower and see how well you do before moving up.

That's all I got. The tourny guys will come in here and give more accurate advice. GL at the tables.

I totally agree that having a target of £75 a day is unrealistic, you will win some days and lose some days, and losing runs of well over 10 sitngo's is not unusual.
I have played a lot of sitngo's over the years and use the formula of having a BR of 45 buy-ins and I have never gone broke and as long as you keep to this you should be ok.
Some people say you only need a BR of 20 buy-ins but as I have had a couple of losing runs of 20+ for me I feel 45 is neither too big or too small.

Thank you for your response! Having been playing for 4 years (20 years old), I've learnt so much and consider myself a good consistant player, however what let's me down is complacency, I win a few big hands and take my foot of the gas, therefore end up losing money, I thought having a daily target would help me overcome my complacency, as I'd have something to aim for?

I've noticed in my game, I have improved so much, and I would just like my bankroll to reflect that.

You may also want to take at least a couple more factors into account. One is how swingy or not your playing style is. Some players experience bigger swings because they play higher-variance styles. While I'm not a great example since my sample size is small, in 8 years of playing SNGs, I've never had a downswing even close to 20 buyins.

Another is your relative ability. The better you are relative to your opponents, the smaller your BR can be without significantly raising your probability of going broke.
