I had the same question about cash games, but I'm just curious how it differs from cash to tournament play. What does everyone think the standard bankroll management is for tournament play, how much of your bankroll are you willing to risk?

Hi AMP1520 and welcome to Cardschat. I agree with Edson. And if you are going to do good BRM, Then if your BR goes up, you can go up with it, but when I got to 10nl and $3-$5 MTT buy in, I just stayed there since I'm winning there. Then if your BR, goes down, you have to go down with it.That is if you want to protect your BR

This should depends on you style of play(aggression),50-100 buy-in.But you may also take an occasional shot at FO no more than 5% buy-in.

The standard is a minimum of 50bi for mtt's and a minimum of 20bi for cash. For a safer approach 100bi for mtt's and 50bi for cash is ideal.

I knew it was 50 buy ins of the selected tournament you wanted to play , but if you want to have a more strict bankroll , cause it's tournament play and it has a lot of variance , use the 100 buy ins rule for every tournament , its better .If you don't have the money , play a cheaper tour.
For cash games I think you should have a bankroll of 20xthe maximum amount of $ you buy on a session ,so if you play a 0.02-0,05 nl ZOOM with buins 2.5$ min 5$ max you must have 100$ bankroll , if you don't have 100$ and you have 80$ you play a 0.01-0.02 with buy ins 1$ and2$ and bankroll required 2$(x)20=40$only. (I prefer x30 so x30themaxbuin is better , use it ).all these for the no limit cash games .
For limit cash games I think you have to got 400 Bb at least before you enter the game

it depends on your return of investment, how many tables you played at same time frame, and the pay out structure.

and what's the extra ratio added on you feel comfortable.

don't think 2% or 5% is a good answer for that, because
the players both have 20% ROI,
one play 1000 entry game
one play 7000 entry game
with 10% pay out structure is totally a different thing.

Trust me you don't want only 50 buy ins when you are navigating mine field MTT's. I play on carbon where the fields are neither large or hard, usually between 100-300 people, and while I have been crushing overall there I have gone on 3 50-60 ABI swings amidst my crushing. Those downers can be totally normal and you don't want a busto roll from poor luck and a standard downer. Use 100BI rule

es530 if you need help post your questions and let us try to help you. And I'm sure the advice you get back will help you if you will use it. Put everything you got into learning the game and you will see in a short time that things are slowly getting better. And just keep asking questions about what is working and what is a big problem. If you will do that your game will start becoming what you want it to be. But that is just the start, because you will never learn it all and you will continue to pick up new things here and there. This is my best advice. Be patient and take your time because it's going to take a lot of time to put it all together GL to you

This is the formula I use:

1) 40 buy ins is my base number
2) Then I add in the square root of the number of players to that number.

Example: If a large MTT has 1000 players, the square root of 1,000 is 31. So I would need 71 buy ins to enter that MTT.

3) 100 buy ins is the top end that I use.

In a super large MTT of about 5,000 entrants, the square root of 5k is 70. I would cut this off at 100 buy ins.

This helps to take in the variance of larger fields into consideration in my bankroll decisions. In the typical daily casino MTTs I play, which run about 100 - 200 players typically, my equation would come to 50 - 55 in those smaller fields where the variance is lower.
