So back when i started playing in pokerstars i had my first 10$ in the account. I was playing either SNGs (1 table) or Head-Up SNGs. I took my bankroll to 50$ and then when it dropped to 40$ after a series of bad beats i was so tilted that i took out the rest 40$ of the account and till then i only play freerolls. So lets assume i have 2-3$ on my account. How do i get the proper bankroll management for that? I dont even know the basics of bankroll management regarding 1table SNGs, what is the percentage of my bankroll that i should be getting in an SNG. What should it be when i play a 45players SNG, and what when i play a 90 or a 180 players SNG? What is the result i should be expecting, in regards to profit etc. Thanks in advance!

If you are still at the stage that you quickly took $40 off, you are not ready to gamble for money (at least your own money).

If you are financially insecure, you should not play (scared to lose anything), it affects your play and allows others to take advantage of you.

Learn more throw reading books, articles, watching free videos, mentor with a coach or friend, and then set aside $100 or more than you don't need to pay the grocery bills, or oil changes, and play with the understanding this is poker money ONLY. Grow it and have a plan (especially if you need a revenue stream), if you double your money, take half, or less, for yourself and leave the extra money to grow the bankroll higher and maybe this will allow you to move up in stakes (if ready and dominating where you start). Again, if you are dominating, stay there and grow it more, while you can, easily, don't be in a hurry. And when you do go up, do it in short bursts, see how it goes, if you lose your way, drop back down before you lose your bankroll or significantly impact it. Keep doing this until you get comfortable at the higher level and your bankroll starts to increase there, adding more time to your new level as you go. Eventually you will be crushing it up there and when your bankroll grows enough for the next step, you do the same limited time and get your footing. All along you are taking a small % of winnings for your own use, but the majority of winnings is growing that bankroll.

Always drop down when the going gets tough and you ever feel over matched or the bankroll becomes in jeopardy, and return to domination at that level until you are ready to move up (slowly), again. gl

I would not have emptied my account if I wanted to build a BR, because if you have nothing, you can't even play. BRM is playing games you can afford. Like Al Spath said, when you have losing days, go down to save your BR. Then when you get back up some, go back up. At one of my sites, I made a $50 deposit, and started at $.01 and $.02 cash and $1.10 BI MTTs. I also played a lot of freerolls. Some from here and some site freerolls. I've learned a lot about poker from right here, and it has made me a better player, but I really had to use the advice I received. You can do the same. GL to you

I have learned that you shouldnt play cash games with more than 10% of ur bankroll or tourneys. So if u have 10$ u shouldnt play tourneys with bigger buy in then 1$ or play on table with more than 1$. Thats a strategy i use and its working very good!

As a rule of thumb playing with 10% of your bankroll is fine but at the VERY minimal. You want to keep this rule even as you double your bankroll.

I would say to start off comfortably with the aim to slowly build your bankroll in microstakes a deposit of $50-$100 is ideal. You can start off on $5NLH or play a series on $2-$5 SNT/MTT.
BRM is key and as a lot of us including me have learnt without it there is no bankroll. Playing with scared money (money you never want to see at $0) is just a bad idea if effects how you play and you will play worse.

With a $10 bankroll I would stick to free rolls and low BI SNG stay away from cash games until your bankroll is bigger too much variance for that.

Good luck!

BRM is crucial for any bankroll in the long run. With a $5k bankroll you should be playing $1k buy in just as much as $5 shouldnt be playing $1 buy ins.

i dont agree with starting on NL5. from when i wrote that post i had deposited back 10$ in my account and started playing MTTs and then Zoom NL2. i got my account again at the 40$ but then again after some bad beats lost 5$ and cashed out.. its not about being afraid to lose my money. whenever i play i am really loose, light 3betting a lot.. but i get really frustrated with bad beats and coolers..

Personally I want to learn to manage my "freeroll" bankroll before I make a deposit. The lessons I'm learning now will help me not make the same mistakes when I'm playing with my money.

You're still playing with scared money so you're never going to really improve. You're going to lose in poker. It's inevitable. Part of learning poker is learning how to manage our emotions. Next time you play and build up your roll, when you lose a hand or two, instead of cashing out, just take a break instead. How else can you build a bank roll?

that must be it... thing is i like the skill involvement of poker but i really hzte the luck factor. i used to play chess and really enjoying it after it really got into deep theory territory. so i got into poker because its much easier yet more close to real life and also has the potential to make some good money. but still the luck factor is something that really gets on my nerves when its not in my favor...

i get the same feelings, you lose some of your BR and want to pull the rest. I just try to remember that this will happen, and I strive to get better at the game so that when I do lose some of my BR, I'm still up from where it started out at!

at pokerstars is better play with 0.02 - 0.10$ if you have 2 or 3$ of bankroll
and you will have more probability to win

and i think that is better play in tournaments , because if you play with the real money in cash you can lose more money and your bankroll will go down
