So I am from the US and refuse to deposit real money onto sites. However I am a pokerowned member and play the Blackchip poker freerolls everyday. My question is how much money from my freeroll winnings should i save before i start playing other real money games? sngs mtts etc. I have been taking my freeroll winnings and just jumping into the first game i can, and sure i get a little roll built up sometimes but then eventually end up losing and have nothing left to rebuild on. So in a nutshell how much should i save up before i can start playing micro stake regularly? and then what games/ stakes should i stick with?

I'm not familiar with Blackchip, but if it were me, and they have 2NL tables that you can buy into with 40 BB or so.. $10 is probably enough. Would be a long hard climb from there though..

Might just be easier to deposit $20 wouldn't it? More of a cushion and then you don't depend on freerolls...

I do my bankroll depending on what stakes I'm playing. I make sure to have 50 buyins for tourneys, and 100 for cash games. It makes sure that I NEVER go busto.

Did you get that backwards maybe? 100 for tourney's and 50 for cash seems a little more practical to me.

Don't focus too much on the size of your starting BR. It's far more important to direct your attention toward improving your game enough to at least break even at the lowest stakes. Unless you can do that, it really doesn't matter whether you have 10 buyins or 20 or 30 or any other reasonably number.

An argument can certainly be made for getting into good BRM habits right away. I don't think it's hugely important to do this with tiny BRs. My thinking is that if you truly believe you're going to become a winning player, losing a few dollars or even a few hundred while learning to beat entry-level games is almost inconsequential compared to how much you'll win over the long run.

So I suggest you take shots as soon as your freeroll winnings reach a few buyins. Five is fine. If you lose it all, so be it. Rinse and repeat. As long as you're improving your game, it's not a disaster. Not even close.
