Bankroll Management

Is there a recommended equation for bankroll management in terms of the size of the game you should be playing in? Meaning... if your bankroll is X you should only play in limits of Q and Y. Or tournaments even?

There is plenty of information on this out there. Full Tilt has a bunch of stuff from Chris Ferguson saying what you should play. I believe the reccomendation is less than 5% of your roll for a tournament entry and cash games depends on how much is being bet on average per pot. Here's one of teh articles:

Yeah, general guidelines are 30 buy ins for the given level you play. So, if you want to play $10 SnG's or $10 NLHE cash games, you should have $300.

But that's just to limit your risk of ruin. For me, I feel more comfortable with a bigger bankroll, and I'm usually retardedly over-rolled for most games I play in.

I can vouch for this retardedness. I saw C9 playing a 5 dollar Razz game. He must have been really drunk.....

i have always heard to never play more than 5% of your roll but i would play whatever u feel comfortable to lose

I have modified BR rules just a bit. I used the 5% budget. If I have a $100 BR. I allow myself $5 to be used as I see fit. That could mean five $1 Sng's. Two $2 SnG's and one $1 SnG or any combination.

I've learned through Full Tilt if you don't cash in 5 straight tournaments, it's probably not your day, so I try to minimize the damage.

This is a slow way of building your BR, but I've ridden up and down the BR wave too many times already. I'd rather go slow and solid.

You must consider this option with the bancktoll like a rule, who cant be bronken if you want to make results.
If you don't play this rule you will lose money freqvently and thats all.

Just like you are hearing. Staying around or under 5% will work very well for you. FTP does have a page that explains how a professional worked from $0 to $10,000. It took him awhile but he made it. The reason it took him extra time is that he kept a limit to what he would play (under 5% like said above) and watched his bankroll management.
