I don't play live, so I'm probably not the best equipped to answer this, but seems to me $100 for a starting bankroll isn't enough for live? So I'd probably look to online.

I've recently dropped down to the smallest of stakes as well, a self challenge of sorts. I think $1 and less MTT's are good, but not the single table games. Also 10NL is probably just a little steep with only $100. I'd say 5NL is fine if you're real confident, otherwise 2NL is probably a better place to start.

If you're gonna start at the bottom and build up.. then I say start at the bottom and build up. 10NL ain't the bottom....

It is to my understanding and experience that you can make a killing with live poker more easily than online....that is at the casino.

I think the money is better in live games if you can take the monotony of sitting patiently and waiting for those profitable hands.

Bankroll 100 buy-ins best interests agree to increase your income and reduce the risk of bankruptcy. Do not play the tournament if you do not have it for 100 buy-ins. Never invest in a tournament exceeds 1% of your bankroll.
The reason is that the more participants - the greater the variance, the greater the bankroll you require. You should also understand that if you suddenly playing minus, you do not have enough in the end no bankroll (applies to all types of tournaments and cash games).
The best option for you MTT $1

If you only have 100$ to spare, I definitely suggest you to deposit it online and try to build a bankroll that way. Online requires huge discipline though. Thats the only tough part about online.

You will loose much time with freerolls without a deposit, but you can try to win a little bit cash at freerolls and then play some sit and gos for example DoN since you have a small bankroll. But all in all your target should be to win a big tournement.

I would think with live play you have more advantages to getting reads, etc. You might not want to do it with only $100 but you might find a casino that $100 is enough to play their lowest stakes within your BRM scheme. If not, and freerolls pain you, then deposit it using the best bonus available at the room of your choice. Consider the withdrawal options #! if you are a US player especially. Checks can take awhile and bounce, etc.

These are only advantages after you become able to do them better than most of your opponents. If you're worse, they are disadvantages.

For live play, there's also the matter of the time spent getting to and from the casino plus waiting for a seat to open up.

I would say go online, learn the game, read books, study at training sites, understand you are going to lose a lot in the beginning. Read Jared Tendler's book and work on your mental game as well as the mechanics.

Online is more convenient as you can walk away at any time. But is is there, almost like the call of a the Sirens, come play. I agree it takes more discipline.
