There you are sitting at the table, and getting rubbish hands. It happens to all of us. But worry not, card hands run in cycles, so sit tight until the bad cycle ends, and when you get better hands, play them to make money from them. Do NOT go wild and frighten the other players off. They will know that you haven't played for a while and will be cautious.

first of the the whole card run in cycles , dosn't work that way ,hand are random , your going to get aces every 221 hands on average just like any other pair , there are 169 different starting hands , pairs having the least combos and then suited cards then unsuited cards.

2. if you are a tight player is easy to just fold to that player when he's in a pot because you know that nit has aj or better everytime, best way to counter this is to include some qj kq suited connectors with your raising range so that you do get more action from players, remember every style in poker can be counted by a different style, if a guys prf is 5 % over 500hands and vpip is only 10% you can bank on him having a top ten hand way more offen then not and if you have that data then you only play vs the tight player if he has other explotes or you have a very very strong hand i will even fold aj aq sometimes even ak vs these players along with small pairs to middling pairs based on the info i have

While it is true that card hands are random, it is strange that within the randomness there is a sequence of good hands and bad hands. I don't mean a run of consecutive good or bad hands, but there is a period when the good outweigh the bad, and vice versa.

Yes sir! Thats clever, specially for the begginers, that's the safest way to play, you don't get a lot of variance, but if, with time, you start to open your range slowly you will realize that playing marginal hands can also be a good idea in some situations

It is very true. There is time when you see that luck is not on your side. I suggest that you don't play that day. Go somewhere, enjoy and luck will come tomorrow. :D

Wisdomman87, where do you get these statistics from? Man I wish I could get Aces every 221 hands. There are 1326 two card starting hands, of which only 78 are pairs, giving you odds of being dealt a pair of 16/1

I think you should not just wait for the premium hands, but try to get into good opportunities

In game cycles makes sense, but when you raise with garbage and bluff, the result is very good work, but so much harder!

Totally agree with you, but as long is not a good map, so I want to hit the ceiling and go all-in

You are completely right. That's the mistake I used to do when I first started playing poker. Once I started not to go wild when I had good hands my game was not as predictable and I started to have more success.

You can only see these patterns looking backwards. They don't tell you anything about the next hand or hands you are going to have. Each future hand is random. These are useless in determining strategy.

It is wise to play aggressively, nearly always. Don't take it easy when you have good hands, in fear of frightening people off. You're leaving money on the table during those hands that you need to make up for the bad hands.

It is impossible to play only the premium hands. At the late stage of the tournament, you can wait for a good hand for a very long time and lose all of your stack. Very bad cards need to be dropped, and the average hand strength needs to be played from time to time!

Cards are random. They are not dealt is cycles. It may seem that way, but there is no pattern.

I suggest you play open up your range at points, this will make your range less predictable.

As for not going wild with good cards, I agree to an extent, however, be careful that you aren't letting people in with rubbish cards too cheap because you may end up with the worst hand post flop.

If you wait for the premium hands to turn up late in the tournament the blinds will eventually eat you up. You will have to lower your standards slightly and keep the opponents guessing.
