Hey all, I understand that by nature of the game things are not always going to go your way. I have been playing since a little after 9 this morning it is now half 2 and the best hand I have gotten was a pair of 4's :dontknow:. This is including hands that I have folded, on two tables. I was wondering how many of you have been through stretches like this and if this is a common occurrence.

Cheers

I've been there.

What's worse is when you wait and wait for a good hand like AKs, and can never pair it, and can't bluff anybody off their hand.

ok finally stopped playing, it is now 4, so a total of 7 hrs. and the hand history consists of a pair of 4's, a full house A over 3, and two pair of k's and 3's. I came up with a straight but had already folded. I'm flabbergasted. Is this common, and would it be a better idea to stop playing on days like that and come back another day. I didn't think that was a physical possibility.

Download pokerstove (free) and plug in ranges. It'll give you an idea of frequency expectations for hands.

It's more useful to look at the number of hands you've played than the amount of time - if I went 2 hours without getting a premium hand, something would be seriously weird, since in 2 hours I play 1000 - 1200 hands.

It's worse when you get decent hands like AK, AQ, KQ, etc. and play them but never hit. In this case you lose more money because youe paying to see the flop. I had a bad day today. I was playing a 90 player sng, had KJ flopped J 10 4, guy pushes all-in, I call he has J 10, I sometimes wouldn't call, but this guy was loose an had already been caught bluffing a few times. Then later in a ring game, I have J 8 BB, and see the flop. Flops Q J 8 so I bet the pot and the guy pushes, I call, guy shows Q 10 and rivers a Q. Those days happen though.

You think you are running bad because you played a couple of hours? Since 20 may, i have played 6124 hands at 5nl 6 max, my BB/100 is 0.82 (after winning for more than 20k hands at a 6 BB/100), i got AA 35 times and won (actually lost) -1.11$ my BB/hand being -0.32. AKs 17 times profit -0.23 BB/hand -0.14

Streaks come and go. When faced with runs like this I'll switch to other sites and/or games (e.g., SnG, MTT, forum tourneys). Just don't tilt because the cards are bad!

I completly understand and all of us go through it. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what cards I get it is always my decision with them that determines the outcome. All of us know when we are struggling in a session. Be aware and sensitive to that cuz it hits all of us. Continue to be patient and make the right decisions when to fold.

Ok so it sounds like this is a fairly common occurrence, and shouldn't get discouraged by it. Today is a new day!

Found another discouraging play. All day you are getting junk hands, and FINALLY you get AA. Of course it's in the big blind, and everybody folds to you, and you only pick up the small blind. I hate when that happens!

Cards are gonna be bad at times, and theres no time to wait, play weak cards aggressively out of good position. Thats just a guess.
