How do you take your bad beats? I usually just sit out for a couple hands so I can cool off without going on a tilt or else i will end up being aggressive and having people see right through me.
how about you guys

take it on chin

every hand i lose is a bad beat 90% of the time i have the best hand going into the pot i take them on the chin and just keep on chugging i hate to sit out hands if i dont have a good hand after the bad beat i fold if i have a good had i play. there is no room for a tilt factor in my game its already packed with good/bad factors.

Sit tight and wait for a spot to rinse the player who muffed you. Simple. There is nothing more satisfying than finishing higher in the cash than an idiot who's fleeced you for half your stack then blown it all while you grind your way back into the game!
A few days ago in full tilt's $3 knockout I had JJ topped by 4 5 spades AFTER i'd flopped a jack! Opponent had nothing and still called my raise, turned a gutshot, went for it and hit the river! Runner runner straight. Less than ten min's later, I had JJ again (both black- exact same hand!) so pushed again, he called, showed KK and my Jacks won through. He went mad saying I'D muffed HIM! lol. I went on and won it, he didn't even see the final table. Nice feeling.

How do you take your bad beats?
With milk and sugar, now enough about cereals.

In poker there is no room for losing concentration because of something that happened in the previous hand, thats one of the reasons for following good BRM, you can't win every hand, Bad Beats happen and nothing can be done about it.

i play alot of tournaments, and they happen all the time. yesterday i was knocked out of 5 tournaments, going in with the best hand preflop.

its just part of the game. so i just sign up for the next tournament i can find.

you can try and think about how many times you sucked out. this helps me when i take a bad beat.

Bad beats happen to us all,we've all seen countless cards come on the river that ruin our day and we r sitting there wondering what the heck just happened. Those first couple hands after the bad beat is really what kills me alot.Something ive been doin is I like to golf so I took out my putter and a few balls and shot a few putts in my computer room.Find somethin like that that really calms u down and gets u out of the negitive mind frame.Best thing to do with bad beats is Learn from it and leave it where u got it dont take it with u thoughtout the rest of the tourn.

I'd have to say that this is just about the worst advice for dealing with a bad beat (aside from perhaps just shoving it allin with marginal holdings on the very next hand, lol). Making it personal is a huge leak in poker. Phuck him... just breathe in, breathe out,... you know you got it in with the best (as disturbing as it can be at times) and just wait and pick your spots. Don't make it a personal vendetta to get back at the donk (or the 'suckee'). This is just bad poker and real bad advice.

As far as dealing with the badbeats.... I think it's just something that comes with time,.. you get so used to it after awhile that it just seems normal. I've tried a bunch of things to work at getting over it, ie. calmly telling opponent, 'Nice Hand!' (and leave it at that!), or trying to see some humour in it,... OR,.. I'll try to picture the donk sitting in front of his computer screen being all thrilled to have just sucked out on me... then take it one step further and try to share in his good fortune (gee.. wow.. that must've felt great!!). {to accomplish that I try to picture that it's my grandmother playing the other hand or some other visual thing that is quite similiar..... not some dumb young punk who is cluelessly shoving in his chips with junk, lol}

The occassional bad beat is ok. The real problem for me is when I get 2 or 3 in quick succession- that is when tilt is likely to set in. One thing that I find helps is if there is a good bankroll management system in place. For example, if you have a daily stop loss, then you can leave the table and save money before you go mad and start chasing losses with marginal or hoepful hands. Also, this gives you a chance to review the hands and male sure that they were actual bad beats rather than bad play.
In the last week, I have had multiple bad beats that washed away large profits- inspite of all of that, I ended the week down less than one buy-in for 10NL. This is simply because I left the table when i was down, and when I did return, I returned to 4NL (as specified by my BR management rules) where I knew I could make some of the losses back but with substantially less risk.
That's what works for me:
- don't chase losses
- don't be afraid to walk away when you reach your stop loss
- there is no shame in returning at a lower limit to preserve capital and regain confidence with a win or two.

All in Fun ....

OK NO Hate Replies.

Here is my point:
In the past I would have replied the same as all of you have.
But then I realized why it happened so often.
To receive a bad beat you have to be a head of the other player.
You may be playing to cautious.
icon13.gif

Put more Gamble in it.
If you are getting beat to often, then you need to gamble a little more.
icon14.gif

Things will even out because you can put some Bad Beats on others from time to time.

When you do get a bad beat.
Try to learn from it.

I do the same thing basically. Sitting out and knowing you did the right
move. Now i also like to remind myself that this is bounnndd to happen.
In the long run you will have so many bad beats, and there is no point
losing a year of your life because of all the stress it can cause, cause you
know stress is one of the number one kills in the world. Keep this in mind
and keep your game solid. Those are the keys on how to be a good poker
player :D.

Bad beats are a part of the game, some days I think I have just bad luck and bad beats are more often, usually I sit out for a while or I make a break for this day..starting all over again the next day

Some days it's like Bad Luck Clings to you.

No Luck no matter how you play it.

I was wondering do you all walk away on those days or do you play lower Limits and Free Rolls like I do and play your way out of the Bad Luck Slump.

:D :D :D

I chalk up badbeats to poor players getting lucky and I know luck runs out. :)

I find that a significant proportion of "bad beats" happen when I'm or someone else is slow playing or trapping their opponents. If I'm slowplaying a set and my opponent gets lucky and out draws me, then that is the risk I took trying to win more of his chips. It's more frustrating to lose to a weaker hand when they won't lay down their hand no matter how much strength you show. Just keep in mind your opponent is either not paying attention (don't worry about them law of averages will catch up to them) or they are paying very close attention and have a read on your play (better watch out for these guys).

Dont let poker get personal ive seen this first hand, i was playing 2/3NL my standard game at the local casino. There was a shortstack at the table who was pushing over peoples raises with 4,6 OS and rivering straights and such.

I was talking to a german guy next to me who decided to have a side wager with me for $30 to who could knock this guy out. Few hands later my new german friend raises $16 preflop see's our target popping a reraise $80 all in with another call behind him.

My german friend without thinking pops a reraise all in with about $600 to be astonished that the person who flat called the donkies all in had also called all in he had about $350.

Turning the cards german guy had AK suited, Donky had AJ os, and the third person in the hand had KK. KK held up and my german friend was down $350 from a side wager.

Dont make it personal you will find a time, from the same person or not..

I agree completely.

Never make it personal.
icon13.gif

Never give them a reason to make it personal either.

Either situation can end up in a big loss on your part.

Sitting out is good advice. All to often players who take bad beats are determined to get even in the next hand. They are usually easy pickings.

I would have grabbed his tongue with a pair of vice grip pliers and cut it with a torch... If you are a winning poker player you should probably practice being humble about it. It could very well save your life on live tables.

As for how I deal with bad beats well, I sit out a few hands to regain my composure. Then to test this composure I unload a silent but deadly mushroom cloud from my bowels and see if anyone can read my face and blame me. If I get away with it then I am back on track with much regained dignity from forcing my opponents to smell my stench.

In fun tournaments as in play money, I don't really have any reaction if it was a bad beat.

However, if it involves possibly winning cash, I scream at my computer and say DARN, and go join another game. :)
