The occassional bad beat is ok. The real problem for me is when I get 2 or 3 in quick succession- that is when tilt is likely to set in. One thing that I find helps is if there is a good
bankroll management system in place. For example, if you have a daily stop loss, then you can leave the table and save money before you go mad and start chasing losses with marginal or hoepful hands. Also, this gives you a chance to review the hands and male sure that they were actual bad beats rather than bad play.
In the last week, I have had multiple bad beats that washed away large profits- inspite of all of that, I ended the week down less than one buy-in for 10NL. This is simply because I left the table when i was down, and when I did return, I returned to 4NL (as specified by my BR management rules) where I knew I could make some of the losses back but with substantially less risk.
That's what works for me:
- don't chase losses
- don't be afraid to walk away when you reach your stop loss
- there is no shame in returning at a lower limit to preserve capital and regain confidence with a win or two.
