Hello all.

After playing poker for many years both online and live games I have concluded that I have no bankroll management. To be honest, I've never really implemented long term strategy into my game ever. This is mainly due to being just a recreational player, playing large mtt or 180man sng. However, due to a recent change of heart I have decided to go back to complete basics, study game theory and poker theory and make a genuine attempt at building some sort of roll...

At the moment I believe myself to be an average player. I have made the final table of tournaments such as the big $11 and big $22 and seem to be able to consistently cash itm in the smaller sngs. To track my results I have purchased hm2 and will be using sharkscope.

My plan is to deposit $50 and grind the 180man $1 hyper turbos on pokerstars. I will be doing this until around $500-1000. On achieving this I will reassess and look to move up stakes. I would love to hear opinions on is this sensible BR management? I understand these tournaments to be of a highish variance. What I believe is that with the stakes being so
Low my edge will come from other players shipping their stack on non premium hands. This will mean that my tournaments are probably going to come down to a coin flip in the early stages...

I will be updating this thread with interesting hands I feel need reviewal and BR updates.

why not just stick with micro stakes STSG or even 1 or 2 table SNG's? Seems like it would be less of a grind and slightly less variance. I would rather have a slight edge and less coin flips....but that's just me I guess. There's plenty of less than average players at these SNG's too.

Either way, gl.

Like Daddy said, I'd recommend sticking to smaller tourneys if starting with $50. Larger tourneys generally have high variance, and into Hypers, the variance can be cruel, unless you have a giant horseshoe shoved where the sun don't shine and you are EXTREMELY lucky. If you search around the forum, recommendations (if I remember correctly) for Turbo S'nGs of this size are 100 BIs, and Hypers even more

Your money and do as you see fit, but you will find these are the recommendations of very experienced players on the board.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, on review (and after losing $20) the variance is huge... Using HM2 to track results my EV is far higher than what I am actually recieving.
The main problem is that most of the pots come down to a coin flip amongst multiple opponents.. The best hand therefore is only better by a small margin.

On review, and thanks to reading around on CC and various other forums I have decided the $1.50 turbo sngs are a better starting point for myself.

Appreciate the advice :D

Good luck with it, just figured would pipe in and suggest that perhaps even sng's with only 20bi might not be a great strat either, especially the turbo's but could certainly be doable as long as varience doesn't kick in on the bad side too early.

Sounds like you have always been more an mtt player, and do well in non-turbos (based on your indication of having ft the big games) so perhaps you might want to look at 45 man's. The non-turbo's start at a 25c game which seems small but if your looking at a good brm it would be your best choice with only 30$ remaining from the initial 50, and a bink of one would rep >10% of your br, then move to the 1$ 45 mans once you reach a certain br based on the brm you are deciding to follow.

Just some suggestions on what would certainly fit as a better brm to be able to rebuild your br.
