Sometimes it is good to retire for a while, when we are stressed and we have lost patience. Recreate in other activities and read some strategies and know what we have failed in the game of poker; Then return in a winning way again.

To return in a winning way you need to improve and actively practice what you learn.. so a good way would be to drop lower in stakes and just play there for a while and "return" to a higher stake when you are ready. You can't become better by running away from it

Retiring for a while, isn't really retiring there guy. Taking a break can be healthy for the mind and game occasionally. The length of that break is entirely up to the individual and there issues.

I have certainly felt that taking a break is a good thing once in a while. When I find that I am unable to separate my emotions from affecting my play, I will take a break from the game to reset. I try to completely remove myself from the game first, then before I start playing I will do some reading to get myself back into the proper mindset.

The key to success in poker is patience and you have to have volume. Breaks are necessary if you feel you are making incorrect decisions that are costing you value at any point during your sessions.

Set up a planned day where you do nothing poker related or two throughout the week if you are playing poker for a living. For most it is just a hobby or side income but clearing your mind for a day helps no matter what you are taking a break from.

Sometimes it's good to take a break, especially if it's a stressful time in your life, but you only get better by playing and studying.

The retiring happens when your caught up with other things in life and you forget about poker for a bit.

I guess if Kid Poker can skip wsop events to go watch a hockey game, it's prolly ok for us amateurs to occasionally take a break to say, go to work, say hey to the wife/hubby & kids & such, as long as it doesn't interfere with our poker. of course.

I did qquit for some years when a lot of sites booted their US players. I remember doing better than I do now. Like, No Superstar, but decent. Not so much now.

retreat is not an option if you want to be a winner, but spend more time evaluating your last month's game if they could be considered as a withdrawal only with the purpose of evaluating your games and see where you bet more or where you should not retire or when be more passive, sometimes we play and do not know our own game.

First of all, you need to understand what your poker ambitions are and the price you are willing to pay to reach them. For example, I realize that it's time to take time when I really did not want to be there but I have to be by obligation. This is because I am aware that I am not a professional player, and I have no profile to become one. Whenever I'm in a tournament but I do not want to be there, I know it's time to stop and take care of other areas of my life that need attention. I believe that many players absorb the idealization of success that is sold by the world of poker and create a bill much more than they should of themselves. Play dozens of simultaneous tournaments, coaches and a thousand other chores that are often far from the recipe for success for us recreational players.

That was a forced break for a lot of us! And I don't think it helped anyone's game.
