Don't stick around if things get heavy. Also realize there's a good chance your outs from over cards are dirty.
Example. You hold AQ and the flop comes J 10 3 rainbow. You C-bet and they call. What could they have? If they have A10,AJ, or KQ, turning an Ace will suck. If they have QQ, QJ, Q10, 9 8(likely suited), or AK, turning a Q will suck. If they have J10, TT, or JJ, you are praying for a K. If the preflop action means they are set mining then you also have to worry about 33. And AA and KK are around somewhere.
Unless you hit that gutshot it can be very hard to tell where you stand. So pot control is probably best, and fold to heavy action.
