I have had this happen many times. AK, AQ, AJ or really any combo and flop 4 to the straight, usually an inside. What is the play with 2 cards to come?

For me, it is proceed with caution. Depending on position, how many players etc. If no one else has bet, I may throw a modest bet at it to give others a reason to fold if they completely missed the flop. I'm likely to fold to any large bet because I don't want to commit my stack on a draw, especially in a tournament. In a cash game I might call a slightly larger bet, especially if mine are suited and I hit a flush draw. If you make a moderate bet and you have others still in the hand with you then it is likely that they have at least a pair. If the board pairs on the turn you could already be drawing dead. The upside is if you make the straight or the flush and someone else made 2 pair, it can pay of big.

Don't stick around if things get heavy. Also realize there's a good chance your outs from over cards are dirty.

Example. You hold AQ and the flop comes J 10 3 rainbow. You C-bet and they call. What could they have? If they have A10,AJ, or KQ, turning an Ace will suck. If they have QQ, QJ, Q10, 9 8(likely suited), or AK, turning a Q will suck. If they have J10, TT, or JJ, you are praying for a K. If the preflop action means they are set mining then you also have to worry about 33. And AA and KK are around somewhere.

Unless you hit that gutshot it can be very hard to tell where you stand. So pot control is probably best, and fold to heavy action.

It's just a gutshot to a high straight, just play it that way. Usually you have two overs so try to control the action and dictate the size of the pot. If you get 3bet, consider folding depending on the type of villain you are facing. Just don't overplay these types of hands, especially early on. But in a tight spot on the bubble, shortstacked? It's not a bad hand to make a move with... You always have outs on a rainbow board.

They are strong hands initially but have to hit the flop, insist on the turn and river with nothing is a sign of losing chips.
