It is common for people to start in poker having false expectations. I will not take time to do an incomplete list, but here I can provide the cure for almost all of these people:
1. Do not get rich from the overnight;
2. You're not half as good you think you are;
3. To win consistently an amount of money worth, you will need more work than you've ever imagined.
4. To win consistently an amount of money worth, you have to invest more time than you have imagined.
Most experience a combination of the following events:
There will be played between 5,000 and 10,000 hands and believe that they have achieved something. However, talking about Limit Holdem, the number of hands is totally insignificant.
After played if any, a mixture of the following results and deductions will take place, with some possible variations ... which are approximately equally likely for anyone.
When you're just starting out, it makes no sense to play a lot of hands. If you are not studying at least twice what you're playing, you harm you greatly. Read and reread the books that everyone is talking about here, discussing hands, do math, think of them off the table, etc. Many things happen in a hundred hands, which will give you something to think about, to post and learn.
