Ask a quite common question:

Why pre flop raise standard size is 3 times of big blinds?

thank you for any ideas.

My idea is , raising 3times of big blinds
so any player behind want to call need about 40% of winning chance to call that raise.
therefore, when dealt default hands are all random hands.

any random hands vs your raising hands are about 31% winning chance, based on that, your raising make the player call or defend with random hands unprofitable.[generally on average 10% negative profit each time]

Any other ideas on that?

Raising to 3BB is a way to remove some players who had not good cards but still want to see the flop for free (BigBlind) or cheap. And when some players gone, your chances of winning will increase.
This way can be called "a ticket" which you have to pay to see more cards. Nothing for free huh?

I agree with whats above, but I take a different tact on things.

I believe my job at the poker table is to make money. To make money I want to make other players make mistakes. It's gambling and there is always the chance that you may lose a hand that you "shouldn't", so you need to attempt to make other players make bad choices. The more times you can make your opponent make a bad play will only increase your chance of making money.

This is why I don't understand about getting mad at 'bad beats' and how people freak the hell out on stuff. If you did your job right and made your opponent make a bad play, then how can you get upset. Sure it's a little frustrating, but so long as you do your job right, it all works out in the long run.

I think it is the enough to show villians what you have in your mind. I thin there is no makes sense to do a raise preflop 5 or 6 BB.
