Hello. I put some cash on a poker site in August, played around a bit. Became frustrated and quit. I still have the money on the poker site, and I have the poker software on my desktop in a folder labled "oos" for out of sight (to help avoid compulsive play). I'm probably terrible at this game and my luckbox failed me or I am awesome at it and my luckbox really failed me. Either way, not playing is as much of a pro strat as I can manage at the moment.

Today I opened up the folder and played for about an hour lost a little bit and turned it off again. The last hand I was bored had KQs and the other guy had AA, my king paired. He bet alot and I was bored. The result didn't bring a relief to that boredom. I called the game dull in the chat and left (oh burn!). I play 2 cent 4 cent (because I am leet pro).

I would like to be good at 2 cent 4 cent. I'm assuming being good at it brings some level of enjoyment to it. It is possible that I am wrong on that. Maybe the people who play this are driven by hope and masochism? I have no illusion that I will be able to play this for a living or any of that crazy crazy.

I would like to take tips/ instructions on how to play the game better from this thread, follow them with a stupid level of adherence for short hour long sessions, and report back. The only things I'm unsure of are the responses I will receive, and how I would report back.

Ok well heres a few tips...

Be very hand selective with starting hands

Its all about showdown value at those stakes so have two pair or better

The more you play the better you become(I lost 30 my first night of playing)

Ive got more but these are defjnitly the main

And dont play marginal hand or set mine as you said your new to the game if you play bad cards youve got to have a good post flop game

When I started, I entered a few low buy in tournaments. I folded every hand but Premium Hands (AA, KK, QQ, AKs) playing them very Aggressively. Then later I opened up to play strong hands. Then Marginal Hands in Late Position, etc.

After each tournament I would review what was working and what wasn't.
Before entering the next tournament, I would either have one Improvement or one new thing I was going add to my game.
Learn the Math (Outs, Pot odds, Implied Odds, etc)

I think Tournaments allow you to play more hands and get more experience.

The more you play and better you get the less bored you will be. When you"re winning I"m sure your not bored. Just keep playing and practicing, reading poker forums and books and in a year from now you will look back and say"man I was a noob" lol, just kidding. gl c ya around. (we all were noobs at once):p

If you have not put the time in to understand the game (preflop play, postflop play, how to play against different opponents, how to play at different stakes, etc...) then chances are you aren't awesome and are likely quite the opposite. Don't worry though, you're in good company at $0.02/$0.04 NL.

I don't understand what you are asking. So, you played KQs and didn't expect a monster like KK or AA. Happens a lot to anyone on this site, especially when playing top pair with fair kicker like Q very aggressively. Next time try to slow down your post flop strategy to feel out opponent's hand first.

I don't know if slowing down playing top pair 2nd kicker at $0.02/$0.04 NL is the best move. Definitely player dependent but at these stakes value-betting hands all day like top pair good kicker is essential!

You're right. Also, there is no story as to how he got himself into the pot preflop which is probably where he made a mistake.

Make sure you understand that at the micro- levels, it's much more about playing for recreation and/or to learn than about making money - at least not the kind of money that's meaningful in a real-life perspective.

In terms of enjoyment, some people are quite content to play the micros and to average a small amount per hour. Others enjoy it less; e.g. people who feel bored winning at the same rate at the same levels.
