Seems to me, more than half the time (maybe 2/3rds) I'm dealt a pair in Holdem, someone else at the table also has a pair. Its to the point where anytime I see a pair, my first thought is, I hope its higher than the other pair someone is holding. I'm wondering if its some mathematical thing that causes this.

Full ring (8 players)? In that case, someone else will have a pair roughly 37% of the time given that you are dealt a pair. If you're truly seeing it 67% of the time, it's probably just variance. I am willing to bet it's more likely that you're forgetting many of the times you had a pair and they didn't. So you're paying more attention to when it is pair-vs-pair than when it's not.

Thanks, and I'd trust the actual math (37%) more than my own "sense" of when this is happening. And yes, 9 table, so I guess it is already a high percentage that two people would be dealt a pair.
