Just reading Sklanskys book and his chapter on Effective odds has confused my own understanding of basic pot odds.

Let's say for example I am heads up and I hold a four flush on the flop to turn, would I just have to figure out the immediate odds of the next card to come - (38/9) and the immediate pot odds I am being offered ($0.30/$.06) or would I have to factor in and consider any bets faced on further streets(turn) by the villain?

When making my decisions and calculations should I just take it street by street?

This is a good question but it's asked a lot.

Briefly, yes, you just consider the next card to come in calculating outs/pot odds, but you also have to consider implied odds when making your decision, i.e. the possible/probable decisions to come of those players behind you.

There are a lot of good threads on both of these subjects.

Here are a few.
