I was playing a much looser game before I decided to take poker seriously. I sat down and learned the ABC's of poker and position. It made a big difference in my overall game.

I then started really becoming a super tight player and maybe only saw a showdown in maybe 1 out of 10 or 12 hands that I played in. I began to see smaller and smaller pots to the point that had a hard time having a good stack when reaching final tables.

In the last two weeks I started opening up my range based on position. I try keep the pots small until things develop. I have since started seeing quite a few more straights and much bigger pots.

Straights are something I rarely ever seen due to not seeing many show downs.

Am I just getting lucky and fooling myself or is it a progression in skill to play small ball and longer into the hand?

This last week I took a 1st and a 2nd in 2 and 3 table live tourneys.

I do not want to fool myself into thinking I am becoming a stronger player if I am making a donkey play.

just have to open up with a 2.5-3x bet and take blinds. small ball is good at the start of a tournament but end game when Antes come in play you will notice the good players loosen up when the antes get big and just steal blinds to stay in. need a large amount of chips just in case you lose a hand to variance would be heartbreaking to get out coolered
