Hey guys,
I have some irregularity in my mind that I just can't figure out. It's maybe a little bit silly question but it's not clear to me. Both of the possibilities seems to me to be logically correct.
So the thing is the alternative way to express the possibility. When someone says it's 80% to 20% it's clear to me. The thing is how to say the same possibility (80/20) not in a percentages but in the fraction expression, if you follow? In this particular situation, it's either 4:1 (4+1=5 possible results is the totality and you express how often each situation occur within this totality) or 5:1 (where number 5 represents the total number of possible situations (100%) and number 1 represents how often specific situation occur within this totality/or easily, how often worse hand win within this number of possible results) , but which one? It's possible to appoint any possibility, not just 80/20... for example in situation where it's 75%/25% am I 3:1 or 4:1 favorite? and so on. Mathematically, 5:1 compared to 4:1 is big difference as wel as 4:1 to 3:1. So do you guys know which one is right way to alternatively express possibility?

I think I understand what you're asking. 4:1 odds would mean that out of every 5 times you run it, you should hit once and miss four times. (80%/20%)

Then pot odds:

The pot is $5 and someone raises $5 and another calls $5 and now it's on you. It will cost you $5 to win $15 so you're getting 3:1 pot odds there.

Hopefully I didn't botch that up too bad :p

I think that 4:1 means you hit once and miss four times

Well, I meant situation where I have 80% and opponent have 20% for example on the turn when both are all-in and so on, simply possibilities to win a hand between two players, not to complete a draw. Sorry for my explanation, it's quite uneven. :)

The two expressions are the same number. You can reduce the percentages to the smallest whole numbers: 80%/20%=4/1, 60%/40%=3/2. Or just divide the numbers to get the ratio: 80%/20%=4(same as 4/1 when in fraction or ratio form), 60%/40%=1.5 (1.5/1 in fraction or ratio form)

And, for your reference, you're using the word "possibility" when you mean "probability". We all understood what you meant, but you should try and use probability in discussions like these going forward.

Oh that's a good point, sorry for that mistake.. it's a probability of course.
Now the thing it's quite clear to me. But anyway I'm just wondering if, from different point of view, the same situation can't be expressed as 4 to 1 as well as 5 to 1. 4:1 is partition of wins out of 5 total runs (of course in the long run). 5:1 represents how often will worse hand win in the ttal number of runs (in this example out of 5, the less number of runs the bigger probability to win). In both cases, opponent have 20% equity if you convert it. It's just my point of view, maybe it's a non-sense. What do you think?

Thank you for that explanation.
Is there exclusively only this way how to convert percentage probability to number ratio or do you this there may be more possibilities expressing the same but with different numbers?(Referred in my previous post)
