If you are like me, or not, you find yourself playing freerolls, because who doesn't like free money. Often, I see all in, after all in, often with ridiculous hands that hit. What do you guys think...

Is the "ALL-IN" often overused, especially by unskilled and inexperienced players?

What strategies do you use against what I like to call "ALL-IN AHOLES" (no offense meant)

happy grinding

let them battle it out and call them with a reasonable ace high or pair. You can also play more for value against those bad players in freerolls, raise big when you have a good/made hand and those fish will find it hard to fold with anything

I like to control the maximum my chips, but we know that we will always find crazy players who are all-inn all the time, and what it is worst of all, they always end up winning.

Just wait for a great hand and all-in with them, because they will most likely have trash or an ok hand, so you will have good odds to win. Later on in tournaments it is used less. Don't worry and good luck.

All in are overused and abused, but not much we can do about it.
the way I handle them is to wait for a vnh and then pay . many times they beat me with stupid hands but there is not much we can do about it.
I also label those players "red" if the poker site has that option so next time I encounter them I can identify them right away. :pepsi:

I play a lot of freerolls and sometimes the 25 gtd on demand on Acr. And I agree there are a lot of all ins. I think people all in so much because they can't play post flop very well. My post flop play is lacking but I'm working on it but still I can't make.myself go all in crazy( might be a good thing). Lol. Just my 2 cents.. Tal

They are. Just a matter of being patient and hoping your good hands hold up.

The all in aholes are non stop and for someone like me who is trying to build a roll from scrap have it tough because its a minefield and the fold and check button are my best friends now. I hardly ever have to raise {they do it for me} so why not just call lol i mean of course i use the raise button but in freerolls i hardly have to because everyone is so aggressive. Like icid86 said its more or less having your hand hold up more then anything else

I like playing freerolls, free money is always good, but I am them playing depending on my mood at that moment, sometimes I am that ALL IN flopper but usually I just wait, sit down, watch my position and wait for some good hands.
My opinion the best time to play freerolls is in night because then lots of people sitting out, easier to win.

When I play freerolls I have no intention of sitting for hours only to see my stack dwindle away. I am profitable at 4nl and 8nl so have to consider the opportunity cost of entering freerolls. For this reason I open shove any half playable hand including any ace, any pair anything that is sooted and nearly connected. I will do this until I either have 3 or 4 times my opening stack or bust out.

And to answer the original question, I often see the all in used by players at the micros when they simply dont want to have to make a decision on a later street.

Where is the problem with these cases? The only thing you have to do is study your hand and make profits:D

It's like a guy in other thread said, that's how you should play a freeroll with ten thousand people.
Divert some all-ins, a few all-ins after that, more all-ins, if u still in the game after that, fold more, still have to divert a few more all-ins, then a few more all-ins.
If you're still alive in the tourney, and if u manage to get among the top 100, then yes, u can start playing poker.

lol, sad but true ..

The all in is definitely overused by the bingo players that come to the poker tables. What I do is simply play premium hands and if I loose at least I can respect the level of poker I played. The all-inners don't usually last very long anyway. They are not smart enough to play good poker once they get a big stack, They still tend to play bingo. Just play cautious and laugh your ass off when they get knocked out!:D

It's a fact of life in NL Hold'em. I definitely feel your frustration when people throw all skill or strategy out the window and shove all in. Obviously some feel this is a strategy in and of itself, taking the risk to put you on a tough decision given lots of variables. I think it's a useful strategy in some cases in tournament play but i think most people overuse and abuse it in cash games.

As others said I think many players see NL Holdem as bingo poker. I can't count the number of times I call an All-In shove pre to get my AA or KK donked by a baby pocket pair or any two suited. I'm sitting there trying to build value pre flop and they jam the pot behind and end up winning. Obviously long term you want to face these poor plays but short term it can be infuriating.

I prefer to be the person putting the chips all in and putting them to the test rather than me being put in that hard decision spot. I love though when people attempt a massive all in bluff on a board they could bluff (except I'm holding what they're bluff representing).

I think some people assume if they shove you'll fold. It's a cop out to avoid decision making on later streets and shows a lack of skill when there's no coherent strategy in doing so. And if it happens on the river it's just silly because you're either loosing value if you're shoving with nuts and I know it and fold or you're loosing your stack because I'm holding what you're check check shove bluffing.

Absolutely loving the responses. Today was a good day for me. Cashed 4/6 tourneys played. WAIT FOR IT...WAIT FOR IT....my stacked is a healthy 246...ops forgot the decimal...$2.46, starting from zero. I basically played a little of all the advice here. Mostly, very tight and maximizing from the donk calls. Took alot of chips from playing the player. Keep the advice coming.

All-in is situational. Depends on a number of factors.Google it to find out more.

I find it's hard at the beginning of a freeroll to tell if the person has a good hand or is just going to keep doing the all-in for the rest of the time, until someone takes him out. I tend to try and stay out of the first few unless I feel I can crush them, people are crazy, I find on the .1c games they just keep entering various games doing that over and over till them get a good stack to stay in and make it to the end....or something....

Even AA is not very good starting hand anything if You have 1 or more all-in players against You. It's just luck if ou win or lose.

It's just something typical for freerolls.
If you don't win a big hand in the beginning you will probably just lose because you don't get any good cards and the blinds go too hard.

All good advice, also it's better to be first to move all in than to call an all in. You have 2 ways to win - they can fold or win the hand, if you are calling an all in you have to win the hand.

OT, but kind of funny....

In a live cash game, a player in seat 1 is heads up against a player in seat 10. First to act after the river card is dealt, the player glances behind the dealer to check the opponents stack. Thinking he has him covered since he sees he has less than 2 stacks of $5 chips, he announces all-in. Much to his surprise villian asks for a count. Player than says what does it matter I have you covered. Villian goes no you don't, I have a $1k chip right here! Player is now sweating bullets, and was relieved once the villian folded.

He gets told by another player, don't get carried away saying all-in, always ask for a chip count if you cant see your opponents chips, lol.
