Hey all
When I first started playing I considered myself a tight player. As I played more and more I realized that I was a tight passive player and tried to change my game to a more TAG style. This has been real successful for me. I've been checking my stats and I found that I play about 30% of my hands, 40% when I have a big stack.
I'm wondering if this would be considered aggressive, average, etc.
I play SnGs and MTTs. Any ideas?
Anybody else make a change like this in their play? If so, what prompted it and how did you change?

I'm assuming you play FR. 30-40% sounds pretty loose to me. I play tighter than that and I play 6-handed. In order to gauge your aggressiveness I think we'd need a few more stats such as how often you preflop raise, continuation bet, etc.

Im still trying to change my play. I used to be tight-passive as well. Ive been trying to get my best rythym dialed in. But semi-tight-aggressive is ultimately what I think will yield the best results for me. And Ive been getting better at it.

Example is I used to hardly ever steal in tourneys. I would raise in LP when I had cards but thats not exactly stealing. I realized that overall profit is increased by increasing the steal attempt in LP with almost ATC. even if you get called out of the blinds, paying attention to the board and knowing when to c-bet often takes the pot down anyway. This might sound like standard play to alot of people but I dont think it is.

Im working on the squeeze play now.

Schnozz- I don't have HEM yet so I just have the PSTARS stats which dont give me pf raise %. unless I'm missing something. I rarely call PF and usually c-bet. I'll get the HEM soon.

Dark - I attempt to steal blinds a lot because I generally feel like I can play post flop fairly well. I play lots of suited connectors and fair to strong Aces. I stay away from A5 and lower. My game has really improved. I need HEM to more efficiently track and plug leaks.

The problem with the pokerstars stats is that it will not give you anyhwere near an accurate VPIP (Voluntarily put Money In
Pot).

It counts the times you are in the BB and can check see a flop. It also will not count the times where you call/raise preflop and then end up folding to a reraise.

That said, 30-40% flops seen would still be considered pretty loose. When I'm running tracking software (Pokertracker for me) my VPIP will be around 15%...this corresponds for maybe 20% on the Pokerstars stats.

Whether you are passive or aggresive depends on the % of times you raise as opposed to calling preflop. If you hear someone say they are 14/12 that means their VPIP is 14% and their preflop raise is 12%. This would be considered TAG.

When you start getting up around 30% VPIP you are playing loose by most people's definitions...even though it might feel tight compared to what you were doing before.

Best advice is to get some tracking software...it will do wonders for your game by giving you a better idea of what kind of player you are. You will find the hand analyses on this site much more helpful when you know your own stats and can compare them to how other successful members play.

Yeah I am looking at getting HEM or PT. Any suggestions? I used to play way tight so 30% feels way loose. I'm profiting (BR up 150%) but Im not sure from where. Are these tracking programs difficult to install?

I would go with HEM, it shows much more important stats for mtt play such as fold to cbet % and fold to 3bet%,
