I recently posted a thread about the funsteps and thanks to a few comments have achieved a goal of winning a few bucks and then turning that into a competitive bankroll. My question is when playing in MTT's I have an issue with preflop aggression. I will shove on the players who are constantly raising preflop on every hand especially if I get deep into a tourney. This is an example there was a player in the 500grt who had 30K and every hand was raising about 2-3 times the big. I had about 9K and blinds were 1600-800. I get AK in the SB and UG+1 limps so the 30K stack is directly on my right and once again raises so I shove. UG+1 folds and he calls we will flip and he has Q10 offsuit and rivers a 10. How do you plays this considering that if you just flat call then you have donated almost half yur stack. Did I make the right move and was it just unlucky.

Getting your money in preflop with A-K vs. Q-10 is a good situation to be in. You are obviously a favorite to win here. Red A-K off vs. black Q-10 off is 64% in your favor.

However, you just don't know really what villain holds until the cards get rolled over. You can only put villain on a range preflop.

A-K is a drawing hand. It is not much without a little help from the board. Many people are happy getting it in pre with big slick. I don't think your jam was bad in this spot, but it is a little like gambling. However, in the SB with A-K, what can you really do...

You were a favorite, but there is variance in poker. I am not sure what the books will say, but I think you got your money in good, villain just got lucky. Don't beat yourself up about it. Given the situation, I think you made a good play.

Of course, this is only my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt.

A flat call would certainly make him think u were weak and bulliable. You need to outaggress an aggressor like this. I personally like your shove and I like how you took a stand with your very solid starting hand

Betting rule #1... never limp into an unopened pot.

Those PF raisers are doing their job, and properly tilting your play.

Time to step your game up.

with 5 big blinds ak is a shove every time they might have you beat though against there range your a favorite.

late in tourneys the antees make it profitable to play much looser if the table is right. usually the blinds and antees add up to more then the standard raise.for example looking on a typical poker stars tourny when blinds are at 200/400 antee is 50 50*9=450
450+400+200=1050
a min to 800 would need to work would put 1850 in the pot you would need to win 1 time in 2.3 times to make a small profit which is 43.47% so if the table is tight and unwilling to gamble this can be a highly effective strategy. then there is post flop play. if your called. you might hit a monster and if not can get out cheap. therefore given the right circumstances loose pre flop play can be highly profitable. the reason why i stay away from raising to many hands is if you do normally the table will start coming over the top of you regular. if you have a large stack and players on your table would be pot comitting you eg say they have ten big blinds you could call with any hand likely to be more then 38.5% if they shoved on you. most players recognise this so you can bully shortish stacks because they need an actual hand to come over the top of you. but then there range would still be light.

so in the right situations lag play works i find though that if you over do it players come over the top of you a lot so just dont over do it. unless your planing to tighten up soon and then trap them.
