Hi all,

i've read a few posts and been impressed by the goals people have set themselves. Then realised i don't have any, so would like your thoughts on the following, and are there any other goals i am missing?

no specific order

- follow 100 buy-in up and 75 buy in down BRM.
- move up from $3 games to $5,
- Measure my ITM% and ROI% aiming for 10% ITM and 30% ROI
- play in the same 2 tourneys each day until i have built up some tourny history.
- Seek advice if i start to see consitent holes in game.

Sounds pretty solid. I also track my daily winnings, my daily hourly rate, my monthly winnings, and monthly hourly rate. I also give myself a monthly withdrawal goal and a monthly profit goal (which yes are different). Sounds like you're on the right track for sure. The most important thing is to make goals. After all, how can you measure your level of success if you don't have anything to shoot for. Good luck!

Don't wait until you think you see holes in your game. Just post any questionable hands you have from your tournies on CC.

Pretty sure i just posted to your other thread ( i think it was you)...

But i wouldn't get caught up in ROI/ITM goals, you are not playing enough tournaments so it's basically just a waste of energy to think about it. If you are playing STT's and you can play thousands in the space of a month, then setting those types of goals is ok, but it's not as important as setting and hitting volume goals/study goals.

instead, focus on playing more MTT's or adding more tables. ANd like john has mentioned, if you are unsure at any point about a hand or spot, you need to post it, if you don't know what to do, note it down, save the hand and post it in the forums to get some feedback.

So, if i was you i would add a goal of posting one hand per day that you are unsure about in the forums and getting feedback on that. THat is a far more beneficial goal than trying to get 30% ROI or whatever which is just such a waste of time. If you wanted to go one step further, you could spend 10 minutes per day going over the problem hands for the day, or allowing a certain amount of time to read up on poker or whatever, and you can form that into a goal also. So you can easily hit these goals, you benefit way more from them as you are learning as you go, and you retain a lot more information if you spread it out over a 7 day week rather than trying to cram 2-3 hours of study in one sitting.

That's really solid advice. Sorry I didn't think of it first. I guess what I do isn't as important as putting myself in your shoes. This also applies to poker. Think about what hands to play and think about your opponent's ranges but also think about what they think your range is. Great advice whizz.
