I just can't win with A 10. Seems like I lose with these cards 75% of the time. How would you play these cards when first person to put money in the pot? Out of position versus in position? Thank you, thank you. (my playing style is more on the passive side, but I'm working on my aggression. I have pretty good instincts and control.)

Cash games? tourney? SNG? full ring? 6max? Need more info!

Try to think about how you are losing, are you normally out-kicked? Are you refusing to fold when you make TPTK with it? Review the hand histories where you lost and think about how you could've payed differently.

Sometimes AT is a good hand to go all in with, when you have a short stack, or are first in in late position, etc.

Totally depends on the situation. If there are a couple preflop raises before I act, I'm folding, unless maybe I'm shortstacked. If it folds around to me preflop, I throw out a 2.5-3x raise and see what happens. If an Ace comes on the flop, just be wary that you're outkicked.

You should not be playing AT in early position, and you definitely shouldn't be calling a mid- or late- position raise with AT.

If you're the first caller/raiser in late position and you raise it, you're probably OK --- but that's the only situation that I'd advise playing it unless you're playing AT suited and there are lots of players in a given pot.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice. I guess I overvalue these cards. They look so nice when you first see them dealt to you. Cheers.

I will only play them when I am in late position and no-one raised before me or just call when someone has min bet/raised. If a tight player in EP raises 3x or more, then thats when I think about folding :)

Yeah,
Don't really want to play it if a tight player from an earlier position starts raising it up. But if everyone folds to em and the action is on you, and you know they fold to 3 bets often, maybe it'd be profitable to reraise. You'd be putting in a total of around 13x bb if you 3 bet him. You'd be making 4x bb. Make sure they fold to the 3 bet more than 2.25 in 3.25 (69.2%) times or call/raise less than 1 in 3.25 times. Then it'll be profitable.

If he calls though, you're probably behind.

A-10 out of position isn't the greatest hand to get involved with but standard open raise 2.5 - 3x
you need to make adjustments based on your table, your going to get credit for being UTG in most cases so be cautious with over aggression coming back at you either pre or post flop. At the same time take advantage of your early raise and put in a strong C-bet if your flat called and the flop is good for you... broadway flops in some cases a Q-K rag flop could be bad for you... as a standard calling range could be K or Q connecting cards etc. again you have to know their rough range of playing hands to evaluate.

in position you may want to take a squeeze or even re-raise on the c-bet against some players against other players you may be better off playing cautiously and just calling down the flop or betting the check (if you decide you have enough equity to play the hand)

I dont like em
Im a nit too;)
but obviously depends on many many factors, many many many
(cash or tournie,sm/large stacked,early/late stage,opponents habits,position,tbl image to name a few)

like micromachine said
review your hand histories, see why they cost you, and fix that leak

p.s. good players can play any 2 cards in any position (or so I think;))
forget your cards more and pay attention the villains habits and style
learn their ranges and play accordingly

also post some of these hands for us all to see
maybe its something easy to fix:)

Thanks for this. I am paying more attention to my actions when I have A 10 (which is a lot). I have no idea how to capture and share hands, as I've seen some others do on this forum. I don't have experience reviewing my hand histories either. I have some homework!

the only time to play them is when they are suited, nobody raised, and you are button or cut off. if all of these are not met just fold
