Hi all,

new to the site and need some help.
i've started playing low level MTT's <500 players with the aim of building a bankroll.

I was hoping someone could advise me on what targets to set for both ITM% and ROI%.
Reading various posts and articles i'm aware the swings can be quite big with MTT so wondered what a good samples size would be to start the process.

Just want to check that if i'm not close to the right numbers to drop down a level

thanks for any help you can give

It depends on what you're trying to to do when it comes to playing MTTs. Are you trying to win or are you fine with just cashing?

A good baseline for ITM is 10% since that usually what most sites pay out (10% of the field). On some sites, payouts could be higher, but an ITM% of 10% or better is decent. If you're a really tight player or play to just cash, your ITM% can be much higher.

As far as ROI% goes, anything positive is always good. I think between 20%-35% is the average of most top MTT players are looking at over a large sample size but I could be wrong.

Again, it would depend on your goal when playing an MTT. If you're looking to just cash, your ROI% could be low (still positive) while your ITM% could be extremely high. If you're playing to win, your ITM% could be much lower (since you're taking more risks to run deep), but your ROI% will be much higher for those times you do run good, make it to the final table, and finish in the top 3 where most of the money is made.

As far as sample size goes, the more MTTs you play, the more accurate your ROI and ITM percentages will be. So, don't necessarily give yourself a set goal and just play as many as you can. As a beginning MTT player, I wouldn't focus on your ITM% and ROI% too much. Instead, focus on your MTT game and constantly improving, and your results will show over time.

OP, I play a lot of micro MTTs. If you like, we can go over basic strategies and such to help your game.

Yeah, if you're only playing 1 or 2 games at a time, it's easy to self track. If you're looking to self track, I would suggest pokerdominator.com. You get the same benefits as tracking on a spreadsheet, but it also calculates other things for you as well. It also graphs your results to give you a bit of a visual look at your progression. It's very similar to tracking software as far as tracking your games go, but you just have to plug in the numbers yourself. To be honest, I don't use tracking software so I wouldn't be much help in that area. I think they're great if you're playing MTTs in large volumes, though.

As for advice, I think it would be easier if you have any direct questions you'd like to ask.

I have about 50-100% ROI in average myself, but I play rather small special tournaments (like 15$ ABI) with max. 6 tables at a time. If you play more tables you can suffice with smaller ROI. Ofc also it depends if you play reg speed or hypers, I usually play turbo and hyper tournaments (better $/hr).

My ITM target is always 100% :D (really though I play DoN stt and my ROI goal is 30%. I'm not quite there but I'm close)

Are you new to this forum or Poker also ?

Reason being... I think maybe as well as playing MTTs you should play a few STTs too just to hone your skills at finishing strong on the final table...

It seems logical to start with STT then progress to MTT as your skill improves... The end of of a final table plays out quite frenetic and hand ranges need to open drastically... but it matters not really I'm sure with good play you will still get to the final tables anyway and hone your skills that way

Good luckl !

I wouldn't set targets for ROI or ITM because you can't really control that. So you are basically setting goals for something that is high variance and you likely will not hit, or you will be way over said goals.

instead i always advise setting volume goals, because you can control it and you can complete the goal and it's all under your control..
