Hi,

I'm interested to know what adjustments players normally make while playing a freeroll vs $10 vs $100 buy in tournaments and also a slow vs turbo tourneys.

When entered in a freeroll, be prepared to take bad beats . Your opponents are apt to play almost anything . In money events people are more conservative and predictable. You should try to get good reads and quickly size up your rivals tendencies. In a turbo you'll eventually have to take more risks , without the benefit of having the time you would in a longer tourney.

Thank you Reney. This helps me how to approach it better next time.

I think that you can not call the change when playing freerolls and tournaments with cash buy-in - "adjustments")) These are completely different levels and strategies for the game. I would advise you to read very old but good books by Dan Harrington, and then practice and after you see on your own experience the level of the game opponents - adjust your game based on the knowledge that you will already have.

Be ready to play poker even from the very beginning! Forget the all in strategy with 50+ bbs and calling with any two. You have to incorporate in your game more weapons like stealing the blinds, 3 betting or squeezes. Be ready to play with your opponents range than your two cards. GL!

Reney covered the freeroll-small stakes pretty well, and it's very similar going up to the $100 level. Similar in that as you go up your opponents will be better and care more. I find it's quite easy to bluffcatch in the small stakes but in the higher stakes the opponent usually has a good hand at showdown

I do not see any difference between freerolls and tournaments for $ 10. Often the same players. Which play the same, that the freeroll, that the tournament with the BI.

To my regret, the old books are obsolete. So no longer play, you will be very surprised by the result of playing books 10-12 years ago.

Freeroll, $0,50, $1.. there are no big differences. Opponents play with almost any two cards lol, bingo game.. but $10 tournaments is a lot more serious game. They were a lot bigger prizes and much smaller number of "bingo fish players"..
for ITM is needed skill and patience!

freerolls are full of people willing to call a 3bet pre with any 2 cards and hope to hit the flop. higher buy-ins the less you see of this

If you are a decent player with a good enough bankroll, I feel it's better to play $10 or more BI, rather than trying to grind it at the micros $1-$10.

The difference between freeroll and higher buy in tournaments is freeroll players are looser and higher buy in tournament players are more strategic and calculated and less reckless with their money.
