Hi All,

I find most people just shove in and end up with 2-3x their starting chips literally minutes into the tournament.

Should I play be playing tight or loose? I find people just shove with cards like 23o. Terrible cards in general.

Feels like a crap shoot tournament. I did get 1st place once, but I got so many lucky draws.

I've been playing poker for about 3 weeks now.

A lot of players go all in on the first hand regardless of their hand because it is a freeroll. Play tight for a half hour or so when the crazy players are knocked out and then adjust.

I play in these all the time and you are right when you say a lot of players shove in right from the start. I like to play tight and wait for the right time to push. I also find a lot of those early bullies end up busting out long before the money.

I shove, but not the "first hand" I shove the first good hand I get because I know I'll get called by a few donkeys. Get a few chips and play my normal game. I'd rather bust out quickly then sit for a few hours struggling.

You cannot expect any good players here so don't get too annoyed if they don't play well.

better take time to read articles and getting better , being active here on CC in strategy threads post play CC freerolls and ask for small staking.

better then being 80 and think back I spend a whole year on these miserable $10 freerolls

Honestly, those tourneys really aren't worth the time. I've won one of them before and it took maybe 4 hours to win $2.50.

Deposit a small amount online and play tourneys where 1st place will at least be worth the time you spent.

That's what you'll find in pretty much any free roll. At ACR, it might even be more prevalent since I think that $10 free roll goes on all the time. If you bust out, you don't have to wait long for another one to start.

I agree, I don't ever play in at ornament with a payout % that small. It's like wasting your life. Just going outside and taking a walk is a way better time investment.

thats just the different meaning of "play aggressively at first" in small tour. Its actually good when you play at higher stakes, for example KO tour, because your chip would be equal or ahead among others next hand.

If you want to practice tournaments for free, or play for fun , these crazy freerolls are ok .Patience early helps of course , and some good cards that hold up ( or good luck ) when the blinds become large later . I , too , quit playing these . They are not worth the mental effort for most of us .

If you want to play them , play aggressively at first , others play it better than me , I mean this first phase to accumulate chips and build a big stack early . What I do is shoving any AQs,AQo,AKs,AKo, QQ+,AJs,AJo,if I play more aggro I 'll shove A10o, A10s, KQs,KQo,JJ, , if I'm low stack QJs,QJo,KJs,KJo k10, . When I double/triple or whatever my stack I''l play tight-aggressive , trying to find weak players (weaker than me hehe) to steal blinds , good spots and hands to shove against big stacks to double again and again , i play less aggressive, more carefully but not passively when it comes close to bubble and in the FT , well there everyone knows what to do . Because I don't play more aggro I end usually with a small stack in the final, let's say 50 , and then I need to shove two - three times . So I might need to play more aggro at first with more shoves (10$ start every few minutes ) and in the middle phase play more suits and more cards, bluffs maybe? . :)

the key to these tournaments is to know when to change style and make your move

most people complain about the bubble the key is to know when to make a move and why to make that move

i tend to make moves 30-50 people range to get to top four range

if I lose I lose but that is when i make a move on these events.

Play tight, play the fundamental of the game, that is, play premium hands, fold rags and hope your hand holds.

I've been playing this for a while now, and my best strategy is limping in the lower levels when I can, not going too far into hands, but mostly sticking to premium hands and not bluffing too often.
