A Solid starting foundation for beginners

Firstly and formost I just felt I could put this out there for any learners.
Their are alot guys here with great online experience to learn from,
but as a solid foundation I'm gonna list a few concepts to use and always remember.

Position is huge! so important to your game especially because you will be playing alot of amateur online players in the micro to low stakes,
and their are so many leaks we can take advantage of.
You will come across 3 types of players generally.

Loose - bad AKA Lagtards
now if you come across this type of player, you want to avoid needlessley getting involved...
take advantage of position (this means the button always to your left and his right)
if you notice he is raising alot regardless where he is.
you want him betting into you when your in position holding either a very strong pre flop hand or a strong made hand.
you dont need to get brave and risk to many swings with this type of player.
just take the gifts.


We also have - the solid aggressive player or the optimally controlled reg.
These are great candidates to build your portfolio around.
you want to create a solid image and keep in mind they will be watching you.
if you demonstrate to them your playing a solid game you will get credit for your calls (akafloating) and you will get credit for any 3-bets.
and if you can demonstrate your not an easy target to bluff your day will get alot easier.
In theory you want solid hands and good position with the regs,
''Pot control'' you dont want to be exposed by an aggressive reg, its far better to try and keep the pot small withyour drawing hands or when you have a piece of the board. ''in anutshell just be cautious with your raises and for how much'' - you dont want to be re-raised for betting small or called twice with only a piece of the board, unless you intend to win the pot and have a read.

And also, you have the passive players/fishy
with regards to position you can actually make money from the passive guys by either being in position or out of position.
when in position it's ok to open up with a wider range for a small amount,
be sure to watch the passive-players they can range massively,
some can be extremely predictable, where as others might be willing to go all in with like any top pair that has been busted by a big draw,
they dont care they basically cross their fingers and hope to win...
this is good for us with the big draws which is why we'd like to get in for cheap with suited connecters and pocket pairs with them..

Fish B
they like to see alot of flops and look to hit the board, generally a check from this fish is weak and take away the pot.
also if they are passive they still view a check as weak so by checking our equity or decent showdown value hands, we induce a raise, we can call, and the passive player will completely shut down with a raise or even a min re-raise on the flop, inducing them to check the turn and we bet.. and the pot is ours...
''obviously we need to be able to determine the player types'' and at times we
can test the water by trying something when we have an ok hand. we can also watch the rest of the table...

my personal reccomendation is to two table one 9 max and one 6 max,

**always use table selection if your not feeling it or it seems overly tough or your easily stack dominated - move tables if your getting hammered by players..


their is loads more to take into account,
but in general just remember their is no set way people always adapt and you keep learning..

**p.s get confident and always rep scare cards if you can be ranged into the board by your actions in that hand. if you think the players are good enough to lay it down

umm to be honest just wanted to put something out their (I was bored had a spare half hour. ,
just something That has been effective for me,
just to givea general example of the need to get into the logical thought process to develop,

1 thing I never had starting out was good positional knowledge and I ended in way to many bad spots (all those leaks add up - especially in tournaments sit n gos - for winrates etc

Who cares who's left or who's right... as long as you win

Thanks for that post cotta 777 i am a relatively new player and will be using you re tactics at the table.

I would suggest that if you are really new, you only single table to start. This will allow you to place full attention towards learning to recognize what cotta is describing. Position importance, player styles, situational action, or several other things that could easily go unnoticed while your attention is elsewhere. Once these basic observation skills become engrained it will become natural and multi-tabling won't restrict the learning curve.
