Ok a couple of weeks ago i deposited around 40$ onto my pokerstars account. This was 20BI for the NL2 games and right now i have 100$ in my account which is 20BI for NL5 games. I did have a couple of losses but managed to get over it and build my br a bit.

I have some spare money and I would just like to ask if it would be smart to deposit 200-300$ more and play higher stakes or is it better if i just carried on with what i have earned on pokerstars?

The thing is if i play with what i have now i will be able to go through all of the stakes which will prove i am a good/winning player but if i deposit more i'm actually scared i will lose it.

What should i do ?

I think you answered your own question. Playing with scared money is never good.

it's just the temptation that makes me want to do it.. I might just deposit 20$ and play some tournaments or HU games rather than wasting so much money and possibly losing.

As it already has been said, you should not play scared, that is why there are rules for BRM(bankroll management).
You should play games where you feel comfortable taking a few hits and still have your head in the right mindset.

who do you feel you have to prove to that you are a winning player? by the sounds of things your progression is going well - if you feel you can crush the stakes you are at then use fairly aggressive bankroll management but IMO the progress of moving up the stakes will improve your game rather than jumping into bigger games without that experience

If you are scared to lose money then depositing is definitely not the answer.

Just keep grinding and move up :)

By building your own BR you are building your confidence and your own game will improve as you move up the limits and you will feel a lot happier to have built a good Bankroll up from your initial 40 and if you lose it you wont be upset at losing $40 where as you could be very angry at losing a 200-300 deposit :)

As I've said a number of times before, there is more to BRM than counting if you have at least X buyins for a particular level. Even if you have plenty of buyins, if you don't have enough game to move up, it's not good BRM to do so permanently.

It's also not good to play at a level where the amount of money you have on the table causes you a meaningful level of discomfort. That said, as you move up, this may involve levels where you have to desensitize yourself, but that's a controlled process, not jumping in and hoping.

if i were you i would keep playing NL2 games...wait until your bankroll gets up to 150-200 and then try a couple NL5 games and see how you do.
if the bankroll falls below 100 i would switch back to NL2, best of luck

Three hundred will be easy to chew through at the higher stakes.Gaining more skills, not increasing deposits and levels, will increase your confidence.
